Job Summary:
The OAC Classroom Aide supports students with special needs in a center-based program by assisting with instructional activities, data collection, personal care, behavioral support, and classroom management. This role works under the direction of the classroom teacher to help implement individualized education plans (IEPs) and ensure a safe, supportive, and inclusive learning environment.

Essential Job Functions:
  • Assist the teacher in delivering instructional activities, reinforcing learning, and supporting skill development.
  • Provide direct support to students with physical and cognitive impairments. This may include working with students who also have autism and engage in challenging maladaptive behavior.
  • Support students with personal care needs, which may include feeding, toileting, hygiene, mobility, and lifting.
  • Implement behavior support strategies and crisis intervention plans as directed.
  • Monitor student safety and wellbeing throughout the school day, including during transitions and outings.
  • Collect data on student progress and provide input to the instructional team.
  • Assist in setting up, organizing, and maintaining classroom materials and adaptive equipment.
  • Support social interaction among students.
  • Participate in team meetings, trainings, and professional development as required.
  • Performs other functions as assigned
Education and Experience:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; associate's degree or higher in education or human services preferred.
  • Experience working with individuals with disabilities strongly preferred.
  • CPI, First Aid, and CPR certification, or willingness to be provided training upon hire.

:
  • Ability to follow teacher and supervisor directions and work as part of a collaborative team.
  • Patience, flexibility, and a positive attitude when working with students who have varying needs.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with students, staff, families, and community partners.
  • Ability to assist with lifting, transfers, and physical support of students as needed.
  • Knowledge of (or willingness to learn) assistive technology and adaptive equipment.
Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, and sit for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift and/or assist students with mobility and self-care needs (up to 50 lbs).
  • Ability to respond quickly in emergency or crisis situations.
Compensation and Details:
  • Pay:
    Per OSEA Agreement (Minimum Hourly: $16.00 per hour)
  • Schedule:

    Full-time, 190 days (July-June)
  • Employee Group: union-hourly
  • Benefits:
    This position is eligible for a cash benefit. This flat amount is provided to you and you may elect to purchase health, dental, and vision insurance. Disability and life insurance is provided. MPSERS provided retirement plan.
  • FLSA: non-exempt
