The Controls & Automation Engineer collaborates closely with Mechanical Engineering, Project Management, and Sales teams to design and implement electrical schematics and controls for bulk material handling equipment and integrated systems built by NBE.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities- Design and develop HMI and PLC programming for NBE equipment, including turnkey solutions that integrate seamlessly with existing customer systems.
- Support additional documentation requirements that may include wiring diagrams, single‑line diagrams, conduit schedules, harness lists, instrument lists, I/O lists, and other required documents as outlined by customer specifications.
- Ensure all project deliverables meet or exceed client specifications and/or NBE standards.
- Ensure control systems are designed in compliance with relevant safety standards and participate in risk assessments to identify and mitigate potential hazards.
- Act as the controls lead for Factory Acceptance Tests (FATs) onsite with or without customers present.
- Provide diagnostic and troubleshooting support for control system issues, both on‑site and remotely.
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related technical field (or equivalent experience) preferred.
- 5+ years of programming experience required.
- Experience in Allen Bradley and/or Siemens programmable logic controller (PLC) programming required.
- Understanding of AC/DC electrical systems required.
- Understanding of National Electrical Code (NEC®) and National Fire Protection Association (NFPA®) code required.
