Job Description
The Damage Prevention Specialist serves as a member of the Emergency Management Team within SEMCO Energy focused on mitigation and prevention. The Damage Prevention Specialist will be generally responsible for the on-site inspection of third‑party construction near the company's underground distribution system in an effort to minimize third‑party damage and protect public safety.
Responsibilities- Schedule and dispatch technicians, both internal and external, for workloads based on current excavation activity.
- Compile, track, and organize information from various sources and data systems for damage prevention daily activities. These sources include the Damage Prevention Risk Model, Opti main, WG facility mapping programs, WG Fleet tracking programs, and jurisdictional One Call Centers.
- Deliver Damage Prevention training to internal and external customers. Includes coordination with call centers and local damage prevention committees as needed.
- Provide support in the collection and documentation of WG damage data to meet various jurisdictional reporting requirements.
- Serve as a technical advisor on Damage Prevention practices.
- Maintain a working knowledge of current regulatory/jurisdictional code requirements related to Damage Prevention.
- May serve in a rotational on-call capacity to meet business needs.
- Perform documents and track electronic and field contract performance/quality audits.
- Receive, schedule, and maintain documentation associated with all Locate requests involving transmission pipe or blasting when used as a method of excavation.
- Compile and track documentation of ROW patrolling to meet various jurisdictional requirements.
- Other related duties, tasks, and projects as assigned.
- Knowledge of business practices and analysis at a level normally acquired through the completion of an associate’s degree in business administration, Engineering or other closely related field.
- Minimum of one to three years of related work experience.
- Thorough knowledge of gas main and service line locating procedures.
- Knowledge and thorough understanding of utilization of GIS.
- Proven organizational and analytical skills, the ability to evaluate data, compile statistics and reports.
- Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, in order to deal effectively with internal and external relationships, notably third‑party contractors.
- Experience in excavation damage prevention, natural gas operations, or work planning/dispatching is preferred.
- Demonstrates ability to use computer software and applications, including Microsoft Office, to share, retrieve, research and present business information.
- Demonstrates working knowledge of the natural gas industry and work management principles.
- Demonstrates working knowledge of mapping and documentation systems, and electronic locating equipment.
- Demonstrates ability to establish rapport and effective working relationships with business partners, supervisors and peers.
- Bi‑lingual – Spanish language proficiency is preferred.
We offer a competitive salary range of $55,800 – $89,300 per year, commensurate with experience, education, and skills. In addition, we provide a comprehensive benefits package including health insurance, retirement plans, and paid time off.
