Job DescriptionFogg Filler seeks a Mechanical Design Engineer to produce individual designs and document new products and product line enhancements. The engineer works with manufacturing to determine optimal manufacturing processes for existing and new products, and with quality personnel to ensure product design and manufacturing meet all quality requirements under minimal supervision.
Responsibilities- Perform in‑depth investigation into materials, processes, and products as assigned.
- Utilize engineering principles to design new products or modify existing ones based on customer feedback, sales engineering, manufacturing input, or service team information.
- Collaborate with manufacturing to determine the best design to minimize labor and overhead costs.
- Work with other engineering designers to review form, fit, and function using Solid Works.
- Develop engineering detail and assembly documentation to support tooling quotations, manufacturing, and preparation.
- Request prototypes from outside suppliers or manufacturing for performance evaluation and testing.
- Assemble prototype products using power and hand tools, handling parts up to 40 pounds during evaluations.
- Initiate and coordinate development programs that increase cost efficiency and streamline manufacturing workflow, including testing and analysis of materials, processes, and prototypes.
- Analyze competitive products evaluating materials, manufacturing processes, performance, and packaging.
- Contact and, when necessary, visit customers, suppliers, and agencies to gather information on existing products, purchased parts, material selections, or manufacturing processes.
- Travel as required to provide engineering field support for customers and dealer/agent bases, maintaining optimum quality service.
- Support Fogg customers and Sales Department with project control specifications and answer engineering customer service calls.
- Assist QC Department when additional assistance is needed due to production demands.
- Bachelor of Science in an engineering discipline or equivalent (preferred).
- Minimum of 5 years of engineering product line responsibilities and 5 years of project engineering experience; supervisory experience preferred.
- Proficient in Solid Works and CAD.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong PC/computer skills, including word processing, data analysis, and spreadsheets.
