The organization is seeking an experienced and mission-driven Controller to lead accounting operations and ensure strong financial stewardship. This role is responsible for maintaining financial integrity, compliance, and sustainability while honoring the mission.

The Controller partners closely with the Executive Director, Chief Operating Officer, and Board by delivering accurate, timely financial reporting, strengthening internal controls, and overseeing budgeting, Medicaid compliance, audits, and financial systems. The ideal candidate is a hands-on accounting leader who values transparency, collaboration, and purpose-driven work.

Responsibilities
  • Perform (and oversee when appropriate) all core accounting functions including AP/AR, payroll, cash management, fixed assets, restricted funds, donations, and retirement plan administration
  • Lead annual budgeting and manage operating and capital budgets
  • Prepare monthly financial statements, budget variance reporting, and cash flow forecasts
  • Manage month-end and year-end close, audits, and GAAP-compliant financial reporting, including Form 990 support
  • Maintain strong internal controls, accounting policies, and regulatory compliance
  • Oversee Medicaid financial requirements, cost reporting, audits, and rate support documentation
  • Manage grant, donation, and restricted fund accounting
  • Oversee financial systems and integrations (Quick Books, Paycor, Fathom, billing partners)
  • Identify and implement process improvements to enhance accuracy and efficiency
  • Supervise and develop finance team members
  • Partner with leadership and program teams to support operational planning and financial decision-making

Full-time, Monday–Friday

Pay:
Competitive and based on experience

Controller Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business (CPA preferred)
  • 2+ years in a Controller or senior accounting role; 8–10+ years total accounting/finance experience preferred
  • Nonprofit accounting experience with Board-level reporting
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, internal controls, audits, and compliance
  • Hands-on leadership style with strong analytical and communication skills
  • High ethical standards and strong alignment with Benjamin’s Hope’s mission and values
  • Strong problem-solving skills with ability to pivot and shift priorities as needed
  • Experience with Medicaid revenue and compliance management preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to leverage AI-powered financial tools and automation to streamline accounting processes, improve accuracy, and drive operational efficiencies while maintaining strong internal controls and compliance
