Supply Chain Analyst Job Description
The Supply Chain Analyst manages a complex supplier base and plant inventory, ensuring timely and accurate flow of materials across multiple locations. This role oversees purchase orders, monitors supplier performance, investigates shortages, and drives corrective actions, while also leading tactical and strategic supply chain projects to improve processes, tools, and overall efficiency.
Responsibilities- Manage 15–20 suppliers for the plant, including inventory for multiple plants when suppliers serve more than one location.
- Oversee purchase orders, including those received, delayed, and not received, and ensure accurate tracking and resolution of issues.
- Review open order reports from suppliers each Monday to monitor shipment status and identify potential risks or delays.
- Communicate with suppliers primarily via email, and by phone when necessary, to obtain status updates and resolve purchase order issues.
- Run 5Y and root cause investigations when orders require expedited fees or miss shipment dates, and implement permanent corrective actions with management support.
- Focus on tactical projects while contributing to strategic initiatives across the supply chain.
- Represent the supply chain function on cross-functional business unit teams and act as a key liaison between operations and other departments.
- Propose, implement, and support multi-site or high-level business tools and process enhancements to drive continuous process improvement.
- Analyze and document supply chain processes using established standards and methodologies.
- Evaluate the entire supply chain, including logistics costs, materials, and sourcing, to identify inefficiencies and opportunities.
- Recommend improvements based on detailed supply chain analysis and support their implementation.
- Lead the integration of new high-level process changes across the supply chain organization.
- Manage large projects related to changes in the supply chain, ensuring timelines, scope, and objectives are met.
- Communicate project status and key findings clearly to all levels of management.
- Develop and deliver business plans or operational models for operations management and supply chain leaders.
- Define high-risk or high-level problems, collect and analyze data, propose solutions, and implement changes to achieve desired results.
- Identify, develop, and complete strategic-level work plans for the entire supply chain or for high-risk projects.
- Own, develop, and implement business processes and related improvements to enhance supply chain performance.
- Facilitate small to medium-sized teams with clear objectives and scope to drive project and process improvement outcomes.
- Manage cross-functional projects that impact the entire supply chain and coordinate stakeholders across departments.
- Align project and process improvement goals with broader functional business objectives.
- Work independently across the entire supply chain in a non-hierarchical environment, taking initiative and driving results.
- Provide back-up support for area coordinators, supervisors, and managers as needed.
- Serve as a team leader on tactical projects of 3 to 5 people and direct the work of others within projects or process improvement activities.
- Provide indirect work direction to individuals assigned to strategic projects.
- Handle material shortages and recovery efforts, including working with problem suppliers and implementing measures to stabilize and improve vendor performance.
- Strong supply chain management experience, including supplier management and inventory oversight for multiple plants.
- Hands-on experience resolving material shortages and leading recovery efforts with suppliers.
- Ability to conduct 5Y or 8D investigations, including root cause analysis and implementation of permanent corrective actions for shortages.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including XLOOKUP, VLOOKUP, HLOOKUP, and pivot tables for data analysis and reporting.
- Experience with ERP systems, particularly in procurement, inventory, inventory management, and vendor management.
