Summary

Sandblasting strips a surface of dirt, rust, old paint, and grease, and prepares it for refinishing and repair. This job relies on manual labor and is physically demanding. A sandblaster’s work environment is often dusty and loud, and the sandblaster is frequently exposed to potentially dangerous situations, and toxic chemicals. Safety equipment, consisting of a hard hat, safety-toe work boots, and hearing protection, are worn to reduce the risk of getting hurt on the job.

Also assists the Paint WC Lead in all aspects of industrial painting (mostly paint prep).

Primary Responsibilities
  • Work at the direction of the Paint WC Lead to complete the following duties.
  • Prepare surfaces for paint by sandblasting, grinding, sanding, de‑greasing, seam sealing, etc.
  • Stage materials for paint both pre and post paint.
  • Before the abrading action, the sandblaster protects specific areas of the work surface using masking film, tape, paper, etc.
  • Responsible for cleanliness of work area.
  • An important part of the sandblaster’s job is the maintenance of the sandblasting equipment, the booth and cleaning and changing nozzles.
  • Taking initiative by recognizing the need and getting tasks done before management assigns them.
  • Act as a backup to the Paint WC Lead and painter, to fill in when needed.
  • Prep, caulk, mask as needed for finish painting.
  • Mix paint as needed and clean paint equipment including guns and booth.
  • Paint parts for 10‑15 hours per week
  • Operation of forklifts, cranes, man‑lifts.
  • Employees are to spend the first 10 minutes of every day at the beginning, after lunch and before leaving to clean and sanitize their area.
  • Promote and contribute to a continuous improvement culture.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge and Skill Requirements
  • 3+ years’ experience in an industrial sandblasting environment
  • Basic reading, writing, and arithmetic skills required. This is normally acquired through a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must be organized and able to perform in a fast paced environment.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds required.
Working Conditions

Working conditions are normal for a manufacturing environment. Machinery operation requires the use of safety equipment to include but not limited to safety glasses, hearing protection, safety toe work boots, and hardhats.

Remote Work

This position cannot be done remotely. It requires working hands‑on in the factory.

  • A. Sedentary work:
    Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.
  • B. Light work:
    Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of force greater than that for Sedentary Work and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated for light work.
  • C. Medium work:
    Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
