Position: Welder/Fabricator (1st shift)

Description

The Custom Cabinet Welder/Fabricator performs skilled MIG and TIG welding and fabrication of cabinet components used in the construction of custom environmental test chambers.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • 1. Review and interpret engineering drawings, prints, weld symbols, work orders, and work instructions.
  • 2. Accurately measure, mark, cut, drill, grind, fit, and prepare materials for welding and fabrication.
  • 3. Set up MIG and TIG welding equipment according to material type, thickness, weld requirements, and established procedures.
  • 4. Perform quality MIG and TIG welds on steel, stainless steel, and other materials as required.
  • 5. Follow specified weld locations, sizes, sequences, and requirements shown on engineering drawings and work instructions.
  • 6. Adjust welding techniques, settings, travel speed, and heat input to achieve proper weld quality and minimize distortion.
  • 7. Grind, blend, clean, and finish welds as required to meet appearance and dimensional requirements.
  • 8. Inspect completed welds and components for proper size, penetration, appearance, alignment, and defects.
  • 9. Recognize discrepancies between drawings, materials, and actual components and communicate concerns to the Team Lead or appropriate department.
  • 10. Assist with more complex welding and fabrication projects.
  • 11. Performs additional duties as directed.
Requirements COMPETENCIES
  • 1. Skilled understanding of MIG and TIG welding principles and techniques.
  • 2. Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, prints, weld symbols, and work instructions.
  • 3. Strong ability to use measuring tools and accurately lay out components.
  • 4. Ability to determine appropriate welding settings and techniques based on material and application.
  • 5. Ability to properly fit, align, tack, and weld components.
  • 6. Ability to recognize and correct common weld defects and fabrication issues.
  • 7. Strong mechanical aptitude.
  • 8. Good hand-eye coordination and attention to detail.
  • 9. Ability to safely operate welding and fabrication equipment.
  • 10. Ability to work independently with limited supervision.
  • 11. Ability to assist and provide guidance to less experienced employees.
  • 12. Ability to prioritize work and manage time effectively.
  • 13. Dependable and willing to take ownership of assigned work.
  • 14. Effective communication and teamwork skills.
  • 15. Technical Capacity.
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • 1. High school diploma or GED.
  • 2. Two or more years of welding, fabrication, manufacturing, or related experience.
  • 3. Demonstrated experience with MIG and TIG welding.
  • 4. Experience reading and following engineering drawings, weld symbols, and work instructions.
  • 5. Experience using welding equipment, grinders, hand tools, power tools, and measuring equipment.
PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • 1. Welding certificate or technical training in welding.
  • 2. Experience welding steel and stainless steel.
  • 3. Sheet metal fabrication and cabinet assembly experience.
  • 4. Experience with custom-built equipment or one-of-a-kind products.
  • 5. Environmental test chamber experience.
  • 6. Experience assisting or training less experienced welders.
