Landscape Maintenance

Overview

Landscape Maintenance members undertake a variety of tasks to upkeep the grounds of Windmill Island Gardens. This includes basic landscaping tasks, such as mowing, weed control, perennial cleanup and planting. Assists in seasonal operations such as Tulip Time, annual and tulip planting, and Magic at the Mill set up.

• Operates mowers, trimmers, backpack blowers and other landscape power equipment throughout designated areas in the park.
• Assists the horticulture team in weeding, pruning, and other garden upkeep tasks.
• Performs light maintenance and upkeep to landscape features to maintain tidy appearance.
• Removes trash and debris throughout the park.
• Assists the horticulture team in seasonal tasks such as planting of annuals and tulips, and setting up special events.
• Other duties as assigned.

• Experience in garden maintenance preferred.
• Ability to operate powered landscaping tools such as mowers and trimmers required.
• Ability to notice details in landscape to ensure beautiful displays.
• Ability to work and communicate with a diverse group of visitors and co-workers.
• Physical ability to lift materials and equipment up to 50 pounds.
• Applicants must be over 18 years of age to operate necessary equipment in accordance with the State of Michigan’s Youth Employment Standards Act.

• Outdoor working conditions with exposure to wind, rain, sun, and extreme temperatures.
• Occasional weekend work required.
• Operation and proximity to powered equipment, including any fumes, noise, and dust they create.
