Electric Distribution Technician (Maintenance)

Substations & Metering Supervisor
Job Summary:
This position is responsible for installing, maintaining, repairing and replacing single- and poly-phase HBPW electric metering systems, and maintaining and troubleshooting streetlights and traffic signals.
- Perform service orders on all types of electrical metering equipment, reconnects, disconnects, meter reads, high or low usage investigations, power quality investigations, during and after-hour as needed.
- Assist in constructing, maintaining, and testing of primary and secondary transformer rated metering.
- Be knowledgeable and proficient in the theory and application of single- and poly-phase metering with voltages from 120V up to 480V AC, including testing, programming, and installing.
- Safely and efficiently operate electrical tools and measuring equipment, including thermography devices, to test, record, maintain, and troubleshoot electrical components.
- Document revenue audits and power quality monitoring using accurate record keeping practices.
- Perform maintenance on underground and overhead streetlight systems, identify and troubleshoot various streetlight components, read and interpret streetlight drawings, and keep accurate records.
- Perform maintenance and troubleshoot traffic signal equipment within roadways, read and interpret traffic signal timing permits.
- Safely and efficiently operate aerial lift equipment for metering, street lighting, and traffic signal systems.
- Assist with various substation and distribution work and storm assessment during distribution outages.
- Perform all other tasks as assigned.
- Journeyman electrical license, associate degree in electronics, or equivalent.
- High school diploma or equivalent, supplemented by courses in the theory of electricity.
- Proficient with electric meters and metering equipment, including installation, testing, troubleshooting, repairing and verification of electric service wiring.
- Familiar with Microsoft programs and computer systems.
- Residency within 20 miles of Holland municipal boundaries and able to provide after-hour support.
- Valid state-authorized driver's license.
- Effective workplace skills as demonstrated through Work Keys assessments (Workplace Documents - 5, Graphic Literacy - 4, Workplace Observation
- 3).
- Communicate and interact well with customers and fellow employees.
- Proximity to environmental hazards associated with electrical, mechanical and/or power equipment.
- Outside working conditions with frequent exposure to extreme hot or cold weather conditions.
- Ability to carry items weighing up to 25 pounds and temporarily lift and hold items weighing up to 70 pounds.
- Work with hands above shoulders while working on various work platforms, ladders, and aerial lifts.
- Ability to distinguish colors.
