As a Lead Diesel Technician, you will play a key role in maintaining and repairing a variety of heavy-duty trucks, ensuring safety and reliability for our customers. - Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair issues related to brake, air systems, electrical, HVAC, drive train and transmission, engine and exhaust, suspension, and steering systems.
- Engage with external manufacturers and warranty contacts to maximize reimbursement for services performed.
- Participate in annual training from Navistar and Cummins to stay current with industry standards and best practices.
- Complete repair orders efficiently and accurately, following dealership and factory guidelines.
- Collaborate with the parts department to obtain necessary components for repairs.
- Save and tag parts for warranty claims or customer requests as needed.
- Inspect vehicles to identify additional safety or service needs and communicate findings promptly.
- Work closely with service advisors to update on additional work requirements, changes, or delays.
- Document all work performed and recommendations on repair orders.
- Conduct road tests to verify the quality of repairs when required.
- Stay informed on manufacturer technical bulletins and updates.
- Report any equipment defects or malfunctions to supervisors.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the shop and vehicles.
- Be responsible for dealership-owned tools and manuals, ensuring proper use and return.
- Comply with all federal, state, and local safety and environmental regulations.
- Operate all tools and equipment safely and report any safety concerns immediately.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in diesel technology or a related field.
- Possession of all State of Michigan HDT repair certifications.
- 4-day work week (Monday-Thursday, 10-hour shifts with a second shift schedule of 2pm
