Miller Elementary School (grades 3‑5) in Holliston is seeking a dedicated and versatile Permanent Building Substitute for the upcoming 2026–2027 school year! Your role as a Permanent Building Substitute:

In the absence of the educator (teacher or paraprofessional), the Permanent Building Substitute is responsible for providing instruction, managing the classroom environment, and promoting student learning. The Substitute is assigned to a single school building for the duration of a school year, reporting to the building each day to cover assignments as scheduled by the building administrator. This may include covering for absented educators, covering preparation periods, staying with a class while the educator attends a meeting or training, and performing various routine clerical duties if assigned.

Qualifications
  • Licensed or eligible for licensure in the assigned grade/subject by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary & Secondary Education; not required but considered a plus.
  • Minimum of two years college education required;
    Bachelor's Degree considered a plus.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing, to children and adults.
  • Commitment to remain current in content knowledge and teaching strategies; alternative qualifications may be considered by the Superintendent in conformity with state requirements.
  • Outstanding oral communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong work ethic and attention to detail.
  • Unrelenting focus on student success, safety, and accountability.
Responsibilities
  • Report to the building principal or school secretary upon arrival and review daily assignments and schedules.
  • Follow all policies, rules, and procedures applicable to educators.
  • Maintain as fully as possible the established routines and procedures of the school and classroom.
  • Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.
  • Develop and maintain a positive learning environment.
  • Teach the lesson outlined in the educator's substitute folder, and consult with the department leader before initiating any teaching or procedure not specified in the folder.
  • Use technology comfortably, including the Google suite, academic platforms, projectors, and video conferencing.
  • Oversee student behavior in class.
  • Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Report any student injuries, illness, or serious discipline problems to school administration.
  • Perform any other tasks and assume other responsibilities assigned by the Principal or designee from time to time.

The Permanent Substitute position is a full‑time role and eligible for benefits. School instructional hours are 7:40 am‑2:13 pm.
