Job Description

The Occupational Health Nurse maintains the health, safety, and productivity of staff by delivering superior onsite clinical services. This role provides RN-level assessment and medical management for work-related injuries and illnesses, supports return-to-work and workers’ compensation programs, and ensures compliance with occupational health and safety regulations. The nurse collaborates closely with the occupational health team and other partners to promote a safe work environment and support the overall well-being of the workforce.

Job Description

The Occupational Health Nurse maintains the health, safety, and productivity of staff by delivering superior onsite clinical services. This role provides RN-level assessment and medical management for work-related injuries and illnesses, supports return-to-work and workers’ compensation programs, and ensures compliance with occupational health and safety regulations. The nurse collaborates closely with the occupational health team and other partners to promote a safe work environment and support the overall well-being of the workforce.

Responsibilities
  • Perform RN-level assessment and medical management of work-related injuries and illnesses, including clinical evaluation, treatment, and appropriate follow-up.
  • Facilitate return-to-work processes and support workers’ compensation programs, including coordination of care, case management, and documentation.
  • Conduct medical surveillance examinations in accordance with occupational health protocols and regulatory requirements.
  • Assist with international travel health consultations, including risk assessment, preventive guidance, and coordination of necessary testing or immunizations.
  • Perform phlebotomy and administer immunizations, as well as conduct CLIA-waived testing such as glucometer checks and TB screening tests.
  • Assist with occupational health supply management, including ordering, inventory control, and ensuring availability of clinical supplies and equipment.
  • Respond to onsite medical emergencies and support disaster preparedness activities, including participation in drills and emergency response planning.
  • Ensure occupational health compliance with applicable state and federal OSHA regulations and workers’ compensation requirements, including accurate recordkeeping and reporting.
  • Comply with ethical, legal, and professional standards, as well as corporate policies and procedures governing clinical practice and workplace conduct.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues, patients, and occupational health partners, fostering collaboration and trust.
  • Apply occupational health and safety principles to help establish and maintain a safe work environment for all staff.
  • Manage and prioritize clinical responsibilities rapidly in response to changing needs of the staff population.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential electronic medical records and utilize Microsoft Office tools for reporting, tracking, and communication.
  • Support continuous improvement of occupational health programs and participate in initiatives that enhance employee health and safety.
Essential Skills
  • Active registered nurse (RN) license in the state of North Carolina.
  • 3–5 years of clinical nursing experience.
  • Strong preference for experience in Occupational and Environmental Health, emergency room, or public health settings.
  • Current CPR/BLS certification.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in phlebotomy.
  • Ability to perform audiometry and spirometry testing for medical surveillance programs.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Ability to organize and rapidly prioritize responsibilities in response to clinical needs and staff population demands.
  • Knowledge of occupational health and safety principals related to establishing and maintaining a safe work environment.
  • Experience with North Carolina workers’ compensation regulations, claim filing, case management, and maintaining OSHA records.
  • Computer literacy in the Microsoft Office suite and competency in using electronic medical records systems.
