• Plan and provide professional nursing care according to medical and nursing plans of care, physician orders, policies, and procedures
• Provide nursing services to patients and families within the scope of an RN defined by the North Carolina Board of Nursing
• Supervise and document nursing care using the nursing process
• Individualize care plans based on patient assessments and responses to care
• Delegate tasks and supervise licensed and unlicensed care providers
• Assist nursing personnel and serve as team leader or charge nurse when assigned
• Monitor and maintain the environment of care, equipment, and material resources
• Maintain professional competencies and pursue appropriate learning opportunities
• Act as preceptor and support staff and formal learners
• Identify and participate in clinical or operational performance improvement activities
• Perform other related duties incidental to the work described
- Graduation from an accredited BSN program, bachelor's degree in nursing (or higher), associate's degree in nursing, or nursing diploma program
- Registered nurses without a bachelor's degree in nursing (or higher) must enroll in an appropriate BSN program within two years of starting and complete it within five years
- Twelve months of appropriate clinical experience
- Current or compact RN licensure in the state of North Carolina
- BLS certification required
- Knowledge of the registered nurse, licensed practical nurse, and unlicensed staff scopes
- Knowledge and appropriate application of the nursing process
- Ability to assess acute and chronically ill patients and their families
- Ability to document assessments, care plans, interventions, and patient status
- Ability to use computers and learn new software programs
- Working knowledge of treatments, infection control, safety precautions, and regulatory requirements
- Ability to withstand prolonged standing and walking
- Pre-employment Physical Capacity Testing required
Demonstrates expertise in nursing care planning, patient assessment, and documentation while adhering to the North Carolina Board of Nursing regulations. Capable of leading nursing teams, supervising care providers, and engaging in performance improvement activities.
