ODA/ Certification Engineer Role
The Organizational Designation Authorization (ODA)/Certification Engineer will provide technical oversight of ODA, New Product Development, and Continued Operational Safety (COS) activities across HPG and assist with product investigations as required.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Detailed review and support of ODA projects for technical adequacy and FAA regulatory compliance, including Program Notification Letter (PNL), substantiation packages, conformity inspections, minor design changes, product type eligibility expansions, reuse of FAA Parts Manufacturer Approval (PMA) design data, and airworthiness approvals.
- Advise and mentor HPG Engineering and Quality teams on ODA and FAA‑managed PMA activities, focusing on ODA procedures, HPG policies, mechanical design, technical requirements, quality systems, and relevant FAA regulations.
- Participate in product investigations, including forensic and engineering analysis, reporting, and preparation of briefing materials for customers and regulatory agencies.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering from an accredited college or university required.
- Master’s Degree in Engineering from an accredited college or university preferred.
- 10+ years of product realization experience for aerospace products, covering design, process development, source substantiation, quality planning, and first‑article inspection reviews.
- Knowledge of large turbine engine aircraft components, aircraft cabin interior, and controls & accessories is preferred.
- Knowledge of basic structural and thermal analysis of mechanical components is required.
- Knowledge of aerospace materials and surface enhancement methods is preferred. Familiar with aerospace manufacturing methods and controls, including milling, turning, grinding, lapping, stamping, forging, casting, molding, non‑conventional machining, welding, brazing, heat treating, additive manufacturing, and other special processes.
- Approachable, organized, and detail‑oriented team player who can prioritize multiple assignments.
- Ability to effectively interpret FAA regulations, orders, policies, advisory circulars, service difficulty reports, and airworthiness directives.
- Demonstrated competency in geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) per ASME Y14.5M standard.
- Strong reasoning abilities for problem definition, data collection and analysis, fact establishment, and conclusion drawing across a range of technical information.
- Ability to interpret aerospace specifications to verify drawing and quality requirements.
Occasional bending, twisting, and lifting of up to 25 pounds.
Work EnvironmentThe position is primarily office‑based with low noise levels but may involve exposure to industrial settings at HPG Business Units, customer, and partner facilities. Exposure to manufacturing and MRO environments, including moderate to high noise levels and machinery or chemical contact, may occur.
Travel DemandsOccasional travel to HPG Business Units, suppliers, customers, and regulatory authorities is expected, with potential international travel.
