The Planner II performs advanced professional planning work involving development review, project management, and public engagement in a fast-paced municipal environment. The ideal candidate will possess several years of planning experience, demonstrated expertise in development review and zoning analysis, and the ability to effectively present complex projects before advisory boards, elected officials, and the public.
This position requires strong organizational skills, sound professional judgment, and the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines while providing exceptional customer service.

This is responsible work in urban planning and management. The Planner II is an intermediate level staff, responsible for project managing planning applications, reviewing, circulating, and providing Planning opinions on development proposals and land use studies with respect to City requirements in conformity with the City and County Comprehensive Plans and relevant State Statutes. Planner II's assist in various aspects of the planning process, supporting the development and implementation of planning initiatives and projects in accordance with city regulations and comprehensive plans.
An employee in this class is responsible for the study and presentation of data fundamental to a comprehensive municipal planning program. Work involves individual or team participation in the development of major planning reports. Functional supervision is received from an administrative superior through consultation and review of completed work.
Essential Job Functions And Responsibilities:
- Review, and circulate applications, prepare and coordinate comments with respect to City requirements, conformity to the Zoning and Land Development Regulations, City and County Comprehensive Plan and state interests on complex development applications including Comprehensive Plan amendments, re-zonings, site plans.
- Consult with stakeholders such as:
Internal city departments, developers, planning consultants, property owners, legal counsel, the public, the State, and other agencies in these reviews. - Collects, compiles, tabulates and analyzes data and factual materials fundamental to a comprehensive planning program.
- Assists in the formulation and administration of the City's Comprehensive Plan, City
- Master Plans, and Land Development Regulations. - Conducts planning and zoning studies.
- Prepares planning and zoning reports for municipal administration, external agencies, committees, boards, and the City Commission.
- Reviews site and permit plans for compliance with all applicable regulations.
- Disseminates information to the public on planning, zoning and development regulations; makes interpretative decisions regarding zoning and development regulations.
