The director of plant operations controls the repair, upkeep, and compliance of assigned building and grounds. Oversees day-to-day maintenance operations of the facility to ensure alignment with departmental, patient care, and organizational objectives.
Responsibilities- Analyzes department outcomes.
- Identifies areas of opportunity and respective action plans.
- Ensures department's assigned daily logs, computerized preventive and corrective maintenance files are in order to comply with authorities having jurisdiction.
- Develops departmental budgets, departmental contracts and vendor relations.
- Determines and justifies needs for systems/equipment/supplies purchases, monitors usage, and oversees proper working order and/or stock supplies.
- Enforces contract provisions and resolves budgetary, technical, and scheduling issues for assigned employees and projects.
- Minimizes unnecessary costs and takes advantage of appropriate cost savings measures.
- Guides and directs team efforts.
- Ensures the department has the resources required to perform as expected.
- Work with department leaders to support day-to-day activities of staff.
- Ensures and approves department scheduling, recruitment, and payroll.
- Rounds on customers to ensure pro-active resolution of issues and complaints.
- Ensures new employees complete general and department orientation.
- Acts as a resource to employees which includes training, orientation, and assessing work accuracy.
- Provides guidance on complex issues that may require more complex troubleshooting.
- Advices and updates organization leadership and peers on maintenance situations and conditions.
- Develops departmental goals, standards, and objectives which directly support the strategic plan and vision of the organization.
- Conducts technical analysis/studies, develops maintenance and project management plans, and manages maintenance and projects to meet the specific requirements set forth by the organization.

Complexity of Work:
Requires staff management, project management, managing multiple priorities, critical thinking skills, effective communication skills, decisive judgment and the ability to be self directed and self motivated. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action. Advanced knowledge and demonstrated proficiency in building trades, comprehensive building maintenance programs, NEC, ACHA, EPA, DOT, ANSI, CMS, Florida Building Code, The Joint Commission Standards, and NFP Life Safety Codes.
Demonstrated leadership skills such as delegation, staff management, staff development, project management, managing multiple priorities, and critical decision making. Computer skills. Excellent interpersonal communication, customer service, and time management skills. Demonstrated ability to work independently, manage abstract, and to problem solve. Experience in the supervision and leading of related roles.
- Five (5) years of progressive responsibility in a healthcare facilities maintenance.
