Perform duties to test product samples to ensure that customer and company product specifications are achieved and contribute recommendations to the development of process improvements, working within the limits of standard or accepted practice.
Responsibilities- Perform other related duties as assigned to maintain workflow.
- Adhere to all company policies and procedures.
- Maintain work areas in a clean and orderly condition in accordance with 5 S standards.
- Require the ability to perform all duties within the limitation of standard methods and procedures, and in accordance with strict adherence to HSE, quality and productivity requirements.
- Ensure required testing on all materials for welded tube and ensure results meet required specifications and tolerances.
- Perform test functions in suitable time frames to support production.
- Record production test results in computer database system and create tags and labels.
- Follow proper MRT procedures for any material out of specifications.
- Perform disposition of MRT materials with direction from quality engineer and central quality lab.
- Prepare samples for test measurements, including cutting with saw, marking, and performing metallographic techniques such as mounting, polishing, and grinding.
- Conduct various product measurement techniques for welded tube, including Keyence vision measurement for dimensional compliance, optical microscope testing (IM, VHX, VR), cleanliness testing, and tensile testing for mechanical properties.
- Maintain records of daily calibration tests on all lab testing equipment as required.
- Conduct gauge repeatability studies and capability studies as per requirement.
- Support the Quality Engineer in collecting measurement data for PPAP approvals and annual dimensional layout.
- Audit product characteristics and production processes to ensure compliance with required product specifications and quality procedures.
- Recommend processing modifications to enhance product quality; write work instructions and procedures to meet quality program requirements.
- Train employees in precision measurement techniques.
- Work independently or within teams to integrate activities, communicate issues, obtain approvals, resolve problems, and maintain knowledge of new developments, requirements, and policies.
- Take breaks outside of production downtime.
- Acquire and apply knowledge of Hydro's safety, environmental and quality standards.
- Excellent knowledge of HAR quality standards.
- Excellent computer skills.
- Excellent mathematics skills, especially algebra, geometry, basic statistics and SPC.
- Basic understanding of metallurgy.
- Ability to read blueprints, geometric tolerancing, and dimensioning.
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
- Good written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks and prioritize effectively.
- Knowledge of process‑related standards.
- Proven ability to develop successful partnerships with internal and external team members.
