In 1986, Robert L. Nelson founded the information systems consulting firm of R.L. Nelson and Associates, Inc. (RLN) to serve businesses in the Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania area. RLN grew steadily over the years, delivering quality services to multinational Fortune 500 companies and many other privately and publicly held businesses throughout the eastern United  2007, RLN joined forces with Vertical Solutions, a Pittsburgh-based IT services firm, to create Vertilocity – an R.L. Nelson and Associates Company.

The combined service offering and expertise spurred additional growth, and the company opened a new office outside of Denver, Colorado in  2021, Vertilocity joined HBK, where they found shared values around client relationships and service. Vertilocity now has locations in North Carolina, Colorado, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania as well as team members around the country.

SUMMARYA System Engineer requires a high-level of critical thinking and problem solving. The individual in performing this role is experienced and knowledgeable in the technical details of support technologies. In addition, a System Engineer has the ability to quickly adapt to technologies that may be newly released or non-standard.

A System Engineer will have strong interpersonal skills and the ability to relate to individuals at all levels of an organization. The role will ensure the client is confident in Vertilocity's ability to successfully implement and configure solutions recommend by Vertilocity.

A System Engineer will stay up to date on the solutions being introduced, whether they be an all-encompassing solution or third-party add-ons. The technological aspects of this role requires an interest and curiosity in fully understanding solutions. Therefore, training, self-study, and continuous improvement of skills are evaluation factors for a System Engineer.

This role requires an individual to be team-oriented and be open and honest about their abilities and deficiencies. Then, as a team, Vertilocity's can address the immediate problems and improve areas of need per the individual.

A System Engineer will provide services at a client's location, and the ability to travel to the client is required (mostly local).A System Engineer should gain certification in any solution in which Vertilocity is presenting to our clientele.
