The certified Sterile Processing Technician within the Sterile Processing Department (SPD) performs all tasks associated with the processing of surgical instruments and medical devices, including cleaning, decontamination, assembly, sterilization/high level disinfection; monitoring of environmental conditions, sterilization processes, and HLD processes; assembly and dispatching of case carts and emergency carts; and inventory and ordering of SPD supplies.
Responsibilities- Assist in processing of instruments, surgical trays, and surgical case carts; perform duties in the Processing area; maintain knowledge of instruments and trays and assemble trays and sets as detailed on set layout sheets; operate all machinery associated with the Decontamination and Processing area and identify problems that affect the quality of the product produced.
- Check expiration dates on sterile items, review for outdated items and take appropriate action if discovered.
- Demonstrate proper phone etiquette; use proper procedure with callers on the business unit and OR Hotline phones in a courteous and efficient manner.
- Make daily soil rounds of the medical units; visit all required areas and return all items to SPD for processing.
- Perform functions in Decontamination area: clean instruments, trays, and carts without direction; control the workflow in the Decontamination area.
- Record all processed loads and keep accurate records; enter information into record books; record biological indicators into required logs; place biological indicators into proper incubator and record outcomes after proper time period.
- Manage SPD department stock: put away supplies and rotate stock as needed; perform duties with reasonable speed and accuracy.
- Assume daily operations of the business unit in the Supervisor’s or Coordinator’s absence, assigning team members and ensuring patient care.
- Operate steam and Sterrad sterilization equipment in compliance with manufacturer instructions, policies, procedures, and Infection Prevention.
- Perform lifting/pushing/pulling as required: lift a minimum of 30 lbs., push/pull a minimum of 50 lbs., stand for the length of shift.
- Other duties and/or projects as assigned.
- Adhere to HMH Organizational competencies and standards of behavior.
Education,
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
- High School diploma, general equivalency diploma (GED), and/or GED equivalent programs.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficient computer skills, including but not limited to Microsoft Office and/or Google Suite platforms.
Experience with STERRAD sterilization.
National Certification:
Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) or Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPDT).
Lifts a minimum of 30 lbs., pushes and pulls a minimum of 50 lbs., and stands for the length of shift.
CompensationMinimum rate of $22.77 Hourly. HMH is committed to pay equity and transparency for our team members. The posted rate of pay in this job posting is a reasonable good faith estimate of the minimum base pay for this role at the time of posting in accordance with the New Jersey Pay Transparency Act and does not reflect the full value of our market-competitive total rewards package.
