This position is responsible for repairing office furniture and equipment (e.g., staplers, file cabinets, cubicle set‑ups and repair, locksmith services such as making keys, repairing locks on cabinets and locking mechanisms). Other duties include loading and unloading trucks, moving pallets, lifting boxes, moving carts with mail and other items. The employee drives a small truck and/or van to other local sites to work and occasionally makes deliveries and pick‑ups at the Post Office.
EssentialResponsibilities
- Examine date machines, time stamps, electric staplers and other office machines used in tax processing to determine cause of malfunction.
- Make repairs as needed to system furniture and customer property as directed by customer work orders.
- Determine maintenance needs and replace wheels of rolling stock.
- Maintain parts inventory for use in daily repairs and communicate parts needed to manager for ordering purposes.
- Maintain files of documents used and prepared.
- Maintain key inventory, key‑making equipment, and repair locks as requested by customer work order.
- Assemble customer equipment as required by work order.
- Perform all other position‑related duties as assigned or requested.
High school diploma or general education degree (GED) is required. Two (2) years of job‑related experience, including basic computer operations skills, is required. Must be able to process routine reports and possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and be able to operate a government general‑purpose vehicle.
Work Environment, Physical Demands, and Mental DemandsWhile performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to walk; reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee is occasionally required to sit, climb or balance, and taste or smell. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and ability to adjust focus. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts and extreme heat. The employee is regularly exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; outside weather conditions;
extreme cold; and risk of electrical shock. Noise level in the work environment is usually loud or unsafe. The position may require the ability to pass and maintain a Security Clearance and may require travel.

Hiring hourly rate of pay: $30.06 (Hourly rate set by SCA).
This position is regulated by the Department of Labor (DOL) as a Service Contract Act (SCA) contract. The DOL regulates the minimum hourly rate of pay, holiday and vacation leave benefits, and Health and Welfare (H&W) money.
