Overview

The Recovery Delivery Driver is responsible for providing flexible delivery support across the transportation operation by handling last‑minute customer orders, recovering delayed or missed deliveries, supporting drivers in the field, and responding to operational disruptions as needed. This role is a critical resource for maintaining service levels, ensuring customer satisfaction, and minimizing delivery interruptions. The driver operates as a mobile support driver, operating FMCSA‑regulated straight trucks, and may be asked to complete emergency deliveries, assist overloaded routes, recover undelivered products, perform route rescues, provide basic roadside support, and support operational continuity during staffing shortages, vehicle breakdowns, traffic disruptions, or other unforeseen events.

The position requires flexibility, urgency, customer service, and safe driving practices while ensuring compliance with Company policies, food safety standards, DOT regulations, and customer delivery requirements.

Responsibilities
  • Perform last‑minute customer deliveries to support same‑day orders and service recovery needs.
  • Respond to the Delivery Experience Team’s requests for route rescue and delivery assistance throughout the workday.
  • Recover and complete missed, delayed, or undelivered customer orders.
  • Assist drivers experiencing route delays, vehicle issues, staffing shortages, or other operational challenges.
  • Transfer product between routes when necessary to ensure timely customer delivery.
  • Support high‑volume delivery days, peak periods, holidays, and special operational events.
  • Maintain communication with Delivery Experience Team, Transportation Leadership, and Customer Support regarding delivery status and recovery efforts.
  • Load, unload, transport, and transfer products safely while maintaining product integrity and delivery accuracy.
  • Verify customer orders, quantities, and delivery documentation prior to and during deliveries.
  • Obtain required customer signatures, proof of delivery, and supporting documentation in accordance with Company procedures.
  • Handle products in accordance with food safety, quality, sanitation, and Company operational standards.
  • Safely operate hand trucks, pallet jacks, liftgates, and other delivery equipment as required.
  • Resolve delivery issues in the field whenever possible while maintaining a high level of customer service and professionalism.
  • Communicate delivery delays, product issues, customer concerns, and service interruptions promptly to the Delivery Experience Team and Transportation Leadership.
  • Safely operate Company vehicles in accordance with all federal, state, local, and Company regulations.
  • Conduct pre‑trip, post‑trip, and safety inspections of assigned vehicles.
  • Immediately report vehicle defects, accidents, incidents, and safety concerns.

  • Maintain compliance with hours‑of‑service requirements and applicable transportation regulations.
  • Provide basic roadside assistance and minor vehicle support to drivers in the field when safe and authorized to do so, including jump‑starting vehicles, assisting with battery‑related issues, replenishing approved fluids, and supporting other minor operational recovery activities.
  • Coordinate with Experience Delivery Team, Fleet Maintenance, and Transportation Leadership to resolve vehicle‑related issues and minimize delivery disruptions.
  • Escalate mechanical failures, safety concerns, or repairs beyond authorized minor support activities to Fleet Maintenance or approved service providers.
  • Maintain and safely utilize Company‑issued recovery equipment, tools, and supplies necessary to support transportation operations.
  • Remain available to respond to changing operational priorities throughout the shift.
  • Work across multiple delivery routes, geographic areas, customer types, and operational assignments based on business needs.
  • Support transportation operations during route disruptions, vehicle breakdowns, severe weather events, staffing shortages, or other service‑impacting situations.
