Overview

Under the general direction of the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs, the Dean of Health and Professional Studies provides divisional leadership to support the College’s mission, vision, and strategic goals. Responsible for the development, implementation, evaluation, and management of assigned instructional programs, services, budget, grant projects, and course scheduling. Leads curriculum, academic assessment, and strategic planning, and promotes data-informed decision-making and initiatives advancing equity and diversity, especially in an HSI-serving institution.

Participates in fundraising opportunities and fosters collaboration with internal and external partners to advance College and instructional goals. The Division includes Veterinary Technology, Radiologic Technology, Nursing (ASN and PN), Education (Early Ed, Elementary, Secondary), Culinary Arts, and Human Services (Developmental Disabilities, Addiction Studies, and Mental Health).

  • Development, implementation, evaluation, and management of assigned instructional programs, services, operating budget, grant management, course scheduling, and faculty workload.
  • Leadership in the development and evaluation of Division curricula and ensuring quality to support existing and new Associate Degree and Certificate Programs.
  • Represent the Health and Professional Studies Division and College in public and private forums; lead collaboration in workforce development and non-credit programs; establish and nurture partnerships with the community; promote articulation with baccalaureate institutions and area high schools.
  • Lead faculty in designing and implementing a student learning outcomes assessment program; support experiential learning opportunities; promote instructional technology and alternative methodologies to enhance learning.
  • Monitor enrollment and graduation data; provide leadership on recruitment, marketing, and retention.
  • Ensure compliance with accrediting and professional standards (ACEN, BORN, JCERT, AVMA, ACF); hire qualified faculty for clinical and field experiences; coordinate accreditation reporting with program administrators.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with area health care providers and external agencies; oversee off-site clinical and field experience contracts.
  • Adhere to applicable collective bargaining agreements and College policies; administer personnel policies in alignment with the Non-Unit Professionals handbook.
  • Prepare agendas and chair Division meetings; serve on the Academic and Student Affairs Leadership Council and College committees; represent Academic and Student Affairs on various College bodies.
  • Oversee health records coordination and CORI/SORI review; develop safety plans for Main Campus labs and associated facilities.
  • Oversee development of alternative clinical assignments while ensuring accreditor approval as necessary; perform special projects and other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
  • Master’s degree or higher in health, education, culinary arts, human services, or a closely related field.
  • At least five (5) years of progressively responsible administrative experience in academic leadership (budgeting) at the level of Chair/Coordinator/Manager/Supervisor.
  • At least five (5) years of full-time undergraduate teaching at university/college level.
  • Knowledge of online, hybrid, and remote learning as it pertains to education in the Division’s professional studies.
  • Cultural competency and experience with equity initiatives; understanding of the importance of an HSI-serving institution; ability to work with a diverse student and employee population.
  • Proficient with technology including Word, Excel, and an LMS (Canvas).
  • Effective interpersonal, organizational, conflict resolution, communication, and management skills.
