Cultural Anthropology is as follows:
An introduction to the field, emphasizing the similarities and differences among societies with different economic, social, political, and religious traditions. Several societies with cultures quite different from our own are studied in detail. Theories about social structure and culture, the research methods used by anthropologists, and the ethics of anthropological research and applied anthropology are covered.
- Provide a quality learning experience for Holyoke Community College students on a semester basis.
- Report to a dean and perform instruction‑related duties and responsibilities in a timely manner in accordance with the mission, policies and procedures of the college.
- Distribute and review the course syllabus during the first class meeting and forward it to the dean no later than the end of the first week of classes.
- Utilize active learning methods and a variety of instructional strategies designed to assist learners in meeting the objectives of the course, including cooperative learning, experiential learning, writing for learning, and critical thinking initiatives.
- Remain abreast of ongoing developments and practices in the professional content area(s).
- Arrange for the acquisition and preparation of appropriate materials and equipment in a timely manner necessary to meet course objectives in collaboration with the area dean.
- Record and report student data accurately, including assessment of student performance and final grade reports.
- Support students' learning goals by focusing on learning outcomes, taking into account needs and abilities of students, becoming familiar with academic and social support, making reasonable provisions to accommodate individual differences, maintaining academic integrity, and being available to assist students in achieving their goals.
- Recommend campus services to students as needed (library, financial aid, counseling, supplemental instruction, etc.).
- Attend all scheduled classes. If a class must be missed, follow appropriate procedures by notifying the supervisor or the supervisor's designee and providing an alternate assignment.
- Master’s Degree in Anthropology or related area.
- Firm grounding in the subject matter of the course being offered.
- Experience using an online learning management system to support classroom instruction (Canvas preferred).
- Commitment to and demonstrated ability to work effectively with a diverse faculty, staff, and student body.

Schedule- Mondays at 11:00 am‑12:15 pm and online.
DCE Salary – $1,397.00 per credit; no benefits.
