Job Summary
Holyoke Community College’s Critical Social Thought (CST) Department seeks a full‑time tenure‑track faculty member to innovate and expand US History teaching and course content. Candidates will bring expertise in US History surveys and specialized subfields in Latinx History and/or US Women’s History.
Key Responsibilities- Teach US History survey courses and specialized courses, including Latinx History and US Women’s History, aligned with the department’s CST option.
- Develop and implement new courses that meet student academic needs and strengthen the CST program. Incorporate technology and innovative teaching methods.
- Participate in college governance, recruitment and retention efforts, professional development, and community‑engaged learning initiatives.
- Advising students in the CST program and related majors; hold regular office hours and provide career‑transfer support.
- Collaborate with colleagues in the CST department and across campus to build partnerships and expand articulation agreements with external institutions.
- Contribute to department service, committees, and sub‑committees; maintain professional expertise and current knowledge in the field.
- Master’s degree in History or a closely related field, earned by January 1 2027.
- Ability to teach standard US History survey courses and courses in Latinx History and/or US Women’s History. Experience teaching courses in the History of Puerto Rico, the Caribbean, Latinx Politics, Latinx Immigration, and US Women’s History is preferred.
- Demonstrated excellence in teaching at the community‑college level, including interactive, culturally responsive pedagogies and proficiency with instructional technology (physical, hybrid, online).
- Experience working with a diverse student body and collaborating on institutional initiatives that promote equity and inclusion.
- Effective communication skills and a willingness to work collaboratively on projects and initiatives.
- Ph.D. in History or a closely related field.
- Demonstrated teaching experience in courses on Latinx History and/or US Women’s History.
- Interest in interdisciplinary teaching and learning.
- Leadership experience that contributes to departmental growth and innovation.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) is an asset.
Full‑time, tenure‑track position; salary commensurate with education and experience, $59,008.00 – $70,786.00 / yr.
