Overview

Holyoke Community College seeks a full-time tenure-track faculty member in the Critical Social Thought (CST) Department to teach US History courses, including surveys and subfields such as Latinx History and US Women’s History. The position emphasizes interdisciplinary teaching, community engagement, and a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in teaching practice.

Hybrid teaching options may be available, but the role will require a substantial amount of on-campus, in-person work with students, faculty, and community partners.

Responsibilities
  • Teach US History survey courses and specialized US History courses (including US Women’s History and Latinx History) to support the CST program and Latinx Studies.
  • Contribute to the ongoing development of the CST academic program through assessment and curriculum development.
  • Participate in college governance, recruitment, retention efforts, and professional development.
  • Advise students with a student-centered approach and build partnerships that expand career and transfer opportunities; collaborate with CST colleagues and external partners.
  • Engage in department and college governance, meetings, and committees; stay current in the field; participate in college programs and activities.
  • Establish and maintain academic partnerships with related college programs and articulate agreements with external colleges/universities.
  • Provide college service as required by the MCCC contract, including participation in shared governance committees or task forces.
Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in History or closely related field completed by January 1, 2027, with the ability to teach standard US History survey courses and specialized courses in US History, including Latinx History and/or US Women’s History.
  • Teaching experience in US History courses in higher education (instructor of record).
  • Excellent teaching skills with interactive teaching, varied pedagogical strategies, and culturally responsive pedagogies.
  • Experience using instructional technology across teaching modalities (in-person, hybrid, online) to enable student success.
  • Experience working with a diverse student body, staff, and faculty; strong written and verbal communication, and collaborative skills.
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in teaching practice.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Record of teaching excellence in US History at a community college or early college level.
  • Ph.D. in History or closely related field (optional but preferred).
  • Experience teaching Latinx History and/or US Women’s History.
  • Interest in interdisciplinary teaching and learning; ability to provide departmental leadership aligned with institutional goals.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
Salary, Start Date & Benefits

Full-Time, Tenure-Track MCCC/MTA Position

Salary: $59,008.00 – $70,786.00/yr. Actual salary commensurate with education and experience per the MCCC/MTA Collective Bargaining Agreement. Full state benefits.

Funding: State.
Start Date: January 2027.

Additional details: a teaching demonstration is a required part of the interview process.
