Adjunct Faculty Position
Holyoke Community College invites adjunct applications to teach in-person sections of PHI 100 Mythology and/or PHI 101 Introduction to Philosophy in the Fall 2026 semester.
PHI 100 Mythology course provides an introduction to myths across cultures. To determine the meaning of myths, this course addresses the following questions:
Do myths present other ways of knowing the world which science and philosophy cannot achieve? What might myths tell us about ourselves, other peoples, and the natural world? The PHI 100 class meets on the HCC campus Tuesdays and Thursdays, 8:00am - 9:15pm.
PHI 101 Introduction to Philosophy course enables students to wrestle with some of Western philosophy's most central debates. Among the core questions are:
Does God exist and how are we certain one way or the other? Does science provide reliable evidence about the way the world works? Do people have minds and souls, or are they just bodies? What makes an act the right thing to do? What is the difference between good art and bad art? Does life have no, one, or many meanings?
Such questions are addressed by reading classical texts in philosophy and by arguing about these views. The PHI 101 class meets on the HCC campus on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays 12:30pm-1:20pm
