Position: Behavioral Health Technician Full Time Night Shift

Behavioral Health Tech – Full Time Night Shift

3 × 12‑hour shifts from 7 pm to 7 am with rotating weekends.

Compensation: $17.50–$28.75 per hour, plus shift differentials.

Job Description
  • Responsible for observation and maintenance of a safe milieu through patient checks, safety monitoring, etc.: completes 15‑minute checks, monitors for contraband, evaluates for change in condition, and provides line of sight or one‑on‑one care as directed.
  • Adheres to tasks delegated by the RN related to patient care, including but not limited to vital signs, specimen collection, documentation, group education, and patient monitoring.
  • Demonstrates effective milieu‑management skills that promote positive patient experiences.
  • Accompanies patients to off‑unit activities, e.g., meals, outside breaks, off‑unit visits, out‑of‑building activities, and appointments.
  • Reports all changes, medical or psychiatric, to the RN.
  • Assists with the admission process, including belongings inventory, visitation to the unit, vital signs, and other duties as delegated.
  • Documents property at admission, accounts for property usage during stay, and reconciles property at discharge.
  • Complies with established policies and procedures requiring a safe, clean, and therapeutic environment, including conducting unit safety checks each shift.
  • Encourages or assists patients in performing activities of daily living.
  • Facilitates or co‑facilitates psycho educational and therapeutic activity groups effectively, using established guidelines and/or prepared and approved information.
  • Employs appropriate crisis intervention and de‑escalation techniques as required and according to policy and procedure.
  • Maintains current knowledge of program and protocol guidelines.
  • Provides assistance in orienting new staff members to their position.
  • Documents in the medical record according to established policies.
  • Provides pertinent feedback to the interdisciplinary treatment team regarding patient response to treatment interventions, assisting in the development and revision of the treatment plan.
  • Complies with hospital policy, OSHA and CDC guidelines regarding the collection of various specimens.
  • Provides support and assistance with other duties as assigned.

Requirements
  • Education:

    High school diploma preferred.
  • Experience:

    Previous experience in a psychiatric health care facility, with direct experience working with chemical dependency, dual diagnosis, psychiatric and geriatric patients preferred.
  • License:
    Valid driver's license and favorable Motor Vehicle Report (MVR). Proof of insurance required when using personal or hospital‑owned vehicle.
  • Additional requirements:

    CPR certification and Crisis Prevention Training (CPI) within 30 days of employment and prior to any patient contact.
  • Completion of additional age‑specific training within 30 days of employment as required. Must be at least 21 years of age. May be required to work flexible hours and overtime. Where applicable, must obtain and maintain agency affiliation.
