Overview

The Group Performance Leader is responsible for Plant Operations (Safety, Service, Quality, Cost and Productivity); planning and on-time execution of the production schedule; achieving performance KPIs and targets; addressing challenges affecting performance initiatives; assigning resources as needed; and reporting performance and issues in daily meetings. The role champions problem solving and the continuous improvement process.

Essential duties and responsibilities
  • Review Daily Performance.
  • Manage all aspects of the Performance Management System.
  • Partner with the maintenance department to coordinate planned maintenance activities and ensure equipment is prepared prior to maintenance intervention as defined in the daily War Room.
  • Create the daily plan based on the output of the daily review, integration, and daily schedule meetings so the GPL and Team Performance Leader (TPL) can manage key daily activities.
  • Support problem solving activities related to safety, quality, service and performance on the shop floor.
  • When required, elevate problems to the Value Stream Leader (VSL).
  • Ensure teams complete routine assessments on team effectiveness and coach the coaches for the respective TPLs.
  • Administer disciplinary action in conjunction with appropriate levels of management and HR.
  • Accountable for safety, quality, and productivity KPIs in their area; partner with Maintenance leadership to improve and sustain autonomous and preventative maintenance by operators.
  • Provide support for continuous improvement efforts, including implementation of new standards and procedures; demonstrate lean fundamentals with TPLs and production team members (Daily Gemba walks, Safety and Quality observations, Tier 2 meetings).
  • Lead Plant Planning and Scheduling Operations.
  • Assist with Pay for Performance tracking and communication.
  • Lead the Department War Room and ensure performance KPIs are updated; report shift performance daily.
  • Assign work to staff, provide coaching and training, set goals, evaluate performance, plan staff development, and make people-management decisions with management and HR (including recruitment, promotions, terminations, and compensation).

  • Has full managerial responsibility: direct reports, assigns work, provides coaching and training, sets goals, responsible for performance evaluation, plans employee development, and makes/approves people-management decisions with or without HR involvement.
Qualifications
  • Minimum of a high school diploma; college degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant manufacturing experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience in a production environment, in a supervisory role.
Additional qualifications
  • B.S. degree in engineering or a technical degree is highly preferred.
  • Green Belt Certification preferred.
  • Strong analysis, problem solving and creativity (5-Why approach).
  • Ability to work independently and in a team; strong communication and presentation skills.
  • Flexible, innovative; able to set priorities and multi-task.
  • Lean manufacturing knowledge; experience with high-volume operations.
  • Strong organizational and planning skills; change agent experience.
  • Ability to translate plant goals into actionable plans; maintain a clean, organized work environment.
  • Proficient with technology (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, e-mail, internet, SAP, Business Objects).
  • Good financial acumen.
  • Approximately 75% of the day on the production floor coaching; may sit for up to 4 hours; ability to lift up to 45 pounds occasionally.
