Job Description
The Division of Administrative Services (DAS) IT Section of the Department of Military and Veterans Affairs (DMVA) is hiring an IT Client Support Specialist
2. This position resides in the General Government bargaining unit (range 16) and is open only to Alaska residents. The role is located at Joint Base Elmendorf‑Richardson; full‑time on‑site work is required, with the possibility of remote work up to two days per week after probation and manager approval.
- Deliver comprehensive end‑user and desktop support.
- Manage network services for both local and remote users.
- Assist with the planning, setup, configuration, and maintenance of servers, networks, microcomputers, printers, and telecom equipment.
- Work under the supervision of the Microcomputer/Network Specialist to ensure seamless operation of IT systems vital to the department’s mission.
- Hardware knowledge – understanding of specifications, uses, and types of computer or computer‑related equipment.
- Operating Systems knowledge – familiarity with computer network, desktop, and mainframe operating systems and their applications.
- Technical competence – ability to use knowledge from formal training or on‑the‑job experience to perform tasks, evaluate technical information, and advise others on technical issues.
- Analytical Thinking/Problem Solving – logical, systematic, and sequential approach to address problems or manage situations.
- Customer Service – work with clients and customers to assess needs, provide information or assistance, and resolve problems with quality service.
- Information Assurance – knowledge of methods and procedures to protect information systems and data.
- Technical Problem Solving – troubleshoot, diagnose, analyze, and identify system malfunctions to determine cause.
- Advance travel to remote areas of Alaska and various locations on Joint Base Elmendorf‑Richardson to support users and divisions.
- Pass a federal background check (including fingerprinting) and maintain required clearance and base access throughout employment.
- Support DMV missions throughout Alaska, including small villages and towns with no commercial lodging.
- Work efficiently in a combined civilian and military environment requiring confidentiality.
