Systems Engineer
Responsibilities
- Diagnose causes of equipment malfunctions applying advanced electronic theory, system analysis, complex test equipment, schematic and wiring diagrams, formulas and/or theories.
- Develop and institute procedures to expedite corrective action and ensure continuous operation whenever required.
- Maintain associated antenna system transmission lines and ground plane networks for communication and navigation aid facilities.
- Certify ATC and navigational electronic equipment in accordance with applicable regulations and standards.
- Analyze and evaluate operations to ensure technical system parameters are within technical standards and tolerances.
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, based on a completed background investigation.
- Must obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. Background investigation and credit check required.
- Must complete a pre‑employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the required level of physical health and fitness.
- Regular exposure to aircraft and generator noise, adverse weather conditions such as rain, snow, dust, high winds, and potentially lethal electrical current.
- Shift work required to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations.
- Incumbent is subject to recall at any hour or day for emergency repairs. A functioning telephone must be maintained for recall availability.
- Certification in maintenance of ATC systems required.
- Pre‑employment screening and random testing, including testing based on reasonable suspicion and involvement in an on‑duty accident.
- Valid state Driver’s License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions required to operate vehicles.
- Instrument Landing System certification required.
- Position is an Inclement Weather Essential position.

Specialized
Experience:
One year of specialized experience that includes installation, maintenance, operation, and testing of navigational aids, radar, communications, and other highly complex electronic equipment; using precision instruments in the installation and repair of equipment to ensure technical tolerances and safety parameters. This definition is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS‑10).
Applicants must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone; substitution of education for experience is not permitted.
Time in Grade Requirement:
Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS‑10).
Male applicants born after December 31 1959 must complete a Pre‑Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration.
Proof of U.S. Citizenship required.
Direct deposit of pay is required.
Payment of Permanent Change of Station (PCS) costs is not authorized, based on a determination that a PCS move is not in the Government interest.
Applicants must comply with the Exceptional Family Member Program requirements as outlined in DoD Instruction 1315.19.
