Position: Field Operations Specialist (Alaska)

Overview

We’re seeking a driven, positive, and reliable person to join us as a Field Operations Specialist for Alaska Bear Camp and Ultimate Alaska Wildlife Safari trips. This role is based in Homer, Alaska and Lake Clark National Park. The Field Operations Specialist is responsible for providing logistical support and assistance to the Trip Owner, Field Operations Manager, Homer Field Operations Lead, Expedition Leaders and Bear Camp manager.

Our preference is to hire field staff who are from the regions we travel to–– preference will be given to candidates who live in Alaska.

Time & Seasonal Requirements

This is a field-based, seasonal contract (1099) position from May 21st–September 4th (107 days). The Field Operations Specialist can expect to work cycles of ~4 weeks in Homer, followed by ~2 weeks at Bear Camp. This role offers the potential for return employment in future summer seasons.

Nat Hab’s Alaska Bear Camp is located on a private coastal inholding in Lake Clark National Park and is accessible only by boat or bush plane.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct airport pickups and drop offs for guests
  • Manage / organize field meals and signature experiences for guests
  • Support Expedition Leaders with group hikes and activities around Homer
  • Manage any last‑minute schedule interruptions (bad weather, cancellations, etc.)
  • Provide positive and professional in‑person assistance to Expedition Leaders and guests when necessary
  • Assist in purchasing supplies, loading and unloading barge to and from Bear Camp
  • Assist in procuring one‑off purchases for ABC as necessary
  • Assist in the management (stocking, cleaning, etc.) of Homer guide housing
  • Assist with group luggage as needed (pickup + delivery to hotel and into rooms)
  • Work professionally with partners in the field when necessary
  • Assist the Lead Operations Specialist with expediting and logistics
  • Assist with booking, confirming, and rescheduling of meals and activities due to schedule adjustments
  • Help complete end‑of‑season inventory
  • Comply with and promote all safety procedures
  • Assist with general camp chores such as housekeeping, turn down service, dishwashing, water collection, etc.
Requirements
  • Fluent in spoken and written English
  • Customer service experience
  • Ability to problem solve and think/act quickly and with professionalism
  • Proven self‑starter
  • A strong track record of dependability and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work well with a team
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Be able to lift items up to 50 pounds
  • Experience working in the travel industry preferred
  • Experience living and working in remote areas for extended periods
  • Comfort working around brown bears (training will be provided)
  • Required certifications (or willingness to obtain):
    Wilderness First Aid, CPR, and Food Handler’s, and TAPS
  • Valid U.S. Driver’s License and clean driving record
  • Ability to represent the Nat Hab professionally and to be a living example of our mission.
Compensation & Benefits

This is a 1099 contract position. Compensation begins at $21 9 per day and goes up from there depending on experience. This role also receives a small share of gratuities for in‑season work.

Nat Hab provides in‑season housing in Homer if necessary. A grocery stipend is available to operations staff while working in Homer and meals are provided while working at Bear Camp. Other benefits include round‑trip transportation to/from Homer (travel days are paid), branded gear, roughly three paid days off per month while in‑season, and eligibility for a monthly healthcare stipend after one year of employment.
