ASRC Federal Communications is seeking a Motor Vehicle Mechanic for our ISS2 contract supporting our Air Force customer. The Heavy Equipment Mechanic works with a wide variety of heavy, medium, and equipment and vehicles to support the Company's operations at Eareckson Air Force Base.
This is a rotational position where the selected employee will work a schedule with 3 months on‑site at Earackson Air Station and 1 month off, unpaid. While on‑site, housing is provided as a dormitory facility and all meals are served through the cafeteria. Transportation to EAS from Anchorage, AK, is provided by government-sponsored aircraft.
SummaryThe Motor Vehicle Mechanic maintains and repairs an array of motorized and non‑motorized vehicles and equipment.
Essential Duties & Job Functions- Repairs, rebuilds, or overhauls major assemblies of internal combustion automobiles, buses, trucks, or tractors.
- Performs generalized maintenance on equipment as required.
- Diagnoses the source of trouble and determines the extent of repairs required.
- Repairs, rebuilds, and maintains various types of motor vehicles and related equipment including but not limited to engines, drive lines, brakes, pumping assemblies, and hydraulic systems.
- Replaces worn or broken parts such as piston rings, bearings, or other engine parts; grinds and adjusts valves; rebuilds carburetors; overhauls transmissions.
- Repairs fuel injection systems, lighting systems, ignition systems, and other vehicle systems.
- Operates vehicles, trucks and equipment to facilitate maintenance or repair actions.
- Serves as Fuel/Re‑Supply Barge augmentee.
- Performs snow removal duties as needed.
- Performs duties for the Emergency Response Team as required.
- Performs nominal maintenance on shop equipment and maintains cleanliness of shop areas as required.
- Performs related work as assigned.
- Automotive repair practices and techniques.
- The use of hand and power tools commonly used in the auto body trade.
- Good reasoning skills.
- Troubleshooting and repairing engine assemblies, clutch assemblies, brakes, hydraulic systems, drive trains, transmissions, and electrical systems.
- Quickly and accurately diagnose issues.
- Perform basic mathematical equations.
- Understanding and following directions.
- Ability to work cooperatively and safely with others on common projects.
The employee is regularly required to talk and hear to understand instructions, provide information, and respond to safety warnings. Work conditions require the employee to stand; climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; taste or smell, and work on scaffolding and ladders. The employee may frequently lift and/or move objects weighing up to 35 pounds without assistance and lift and/or move heavier objects with assistance.
Job Requirements Mandatory- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Successful completion of a formal motor vehicle mechanic apprenticeship (or equivalent training and experience).
- Five (5) years’ experience with heavy construction and snow removal equipment.
- Valid state driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
- Obtain and maintain a National Agency Check with Inquiries.
- U.S. citizen.
- Must pass a background check, drug screening, fingerprints, and a fit‑for‑duty physical exam; candidates must be medically cleared for long‑term residency in a remote location with limited access to healthcare.
- Previous experience working on a military installation.
- Previous experience working in a remote location.
