W/WW Utilities Technician I
Salary: $21.85 - $23.38 DOE
General Functions: Primarily maintains water distribution and wastewater collection systems and assists with maintenance of city facilities, public buildings, and parks.
Job Functions and Major
Activities:
- Performs maintenance of City facilities related to water distribution and wastewater collection systems.
- Assists with maintenance and repairs of City buildings and physical plants as assigned.
- Assists with monthly water meter readings and transmits records to Finance Department for billing; may also assist the Finance Department in monthly billing in the absence of a Meter Technician.
- Assists Meter Technician with maintenance of all residential and commercial water meters in the City's water system.
- Performs preventative maintenance inspections on a routine basis and maintains maintenance records.
- Performs major maintenance projects and repairs.
- Might occasionally assist roadway and excavation crews and operate light equipment.
- Performs other duties as directed by supervisor.
Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities: Entry‑level position requiring one year of experience in mechanical and structural repairs and working knowledge in light equipment operations. Desired maintenance background. Working knowledge of computers and ability to maintain records. Ability to communicate effectively with the public is required. Desirable experience in backflow prevention. High school diploma or GED required.
Decision Making Responsibilities: Daily direction of specific nature. Responsible for operation of expensive equipment, maintenance inspection of water distribution and wastewater collection systems, and making valid judgment about equipment condition, particularly in dangerous situations. Minor budget authority at unit level.
Supervisory Authority: None.
External Visibility/Contact: High contact with the public; moderate contact with key service personnel; infrequent contact with key city personnel, government officials, and attendance at public meetings.
Working Conditions: High frequency of exposure to adverse weather conditions such as extreme cold, snow, and ice. High frequency of exposure to hazardous conditions such as working in confined spaces, deep ditches, and use of steam boilers. Heavy physical effort, lifting or moving equipment up to 50 pounds, and working in awkward positions with tools or equipment. On‑call duty and overtime may be required.
This position is subject to the Commercial Driver's License Drug and Alcohol Testing Policy.
W/WW Utilities Technician IISalary: $25.89 - $28.14 DOE
General Functions: Maintains water distribution and wastewater collection systems and assists with maintenance of City facilities.

- Assists with monthly water meter readings and transmits records to Finance Department; assists Finance Department with monthly billing process as needed. Responsible for this function in the absence of a Meter Technician.
- Assists Meter Technician with maintenance of all residential and commercial water meters in the City's water system.
- Performs major maintenance projects and repairs.
- Might occasionally assist roadway and excavation crews and operate light equipment.
- Performs other related duties as directed by supervisor.
Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities: Two years of experience in mechanical and structural repairs and working knowledge in light equipment operations. Desired maintenance background. Must obtain ADEC Provisional Certificate for Water Distribution and Wastewater Collection within 12 months of hire and Level I Certification within 12 months of receiving the Provisional Certificate. Working knowledge of computers is required, with ability to maintain records.
Ability to communicate effectively with the public is required. Desired experience in backflow prevention. High school diploma or GED required.
