General Function:The Roofing Inspector is responsible for enforcing state, county, and municipal roofing codes to ensure compliance with applicable laws, safety standards, and construction practices. This position provides advanced technical expertise, performs complex roofing inspections, reviews roofing plans, and serves as a subject matter expert on roofing code interpretation and enforcement within the City of Homestead.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:- Perform field inspections of roofs, roofing installations, and construction projects to ensure compliance with the Florida Building Code – Roofing, Miami-Dade amendments, and all applicable regulations.
- Review roofing plans, specifications, and permit applications for code compliance and technical accuracy.
- Provide technical guidance and code interpretation assistance to inspection staff, contractors, architects, engineers, and the public.
- Interpret and enforce applicable building and roofing codes; issue notices of violation and coordinate required compliance actions.
- Serve as a technical resource and subject matter expert regarding roofing code requirements and best practices.
- Prepare inspection reports, maintain accurate inspection records, and ensure documentation is complete and compliant with regulatory standards.
- Participate in technical reviews, compliance meetings, and hearings related to roofing code enforcement, as required.
- Maintain current knowledge of applicable codes, regulations, certifications, and continuing education requirements.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned or required.

Work hours:
- Full-time/Regular in-person position.
- Standard workweek, which is forty (40) hours of work per week usually consisting of five (5) days of eight (8) hours per day. The workday may be varied for the efficient delivery of public service.
- Will be required to work other than the standard workweek on occasion, including evenings, weekends, and/or holidays.
- Will be required to work occasional overtime or shift assignments, if applicable.
- Possess two years of field experience in the High Velocity Hurricane Zone (HVHZ). Completing an eight-hour HVHZ training course approved by Miami-Dade Board of Rules and Appeals may substitute for the required HVHZ experience.
- Must possess a valid and current Driver’s License with a clean driving record Plus, meet one of the following four requirements:
- Five years of experience in the roofing industry, including two years in a supervisory capacity AND either: (a) Current Roofing Certificate of Competency or Certificate of Eligibility issued by the MDC CTQB; or (b) Current Roofing Contractor license issued by the Florida CILB; OR
- Five years of experience in the roofing industry and certification as a Building Inspector in MDC and possess a Florida Standard Roofing Inspector License or a personal certificate from the MDC CTQB as a Roofing Inspector or Roofing Contractor; OR
- Five years of experience in the roofing industry and certification as a Building Inspector in MDC and possess a current certificate as a GC issued by the Florida CILB provided the number of the license shall be less than #7837; OR
- Five years of experience in the roofing industry and holding a current license from Florida as a Registered Architect or Professional Engineer.
- Must pass a background screening process.
