Position: Engineer I

General Function:

Employee designs and prepares the necessary plans and work orders for construction for the Electric Utilities Department. Work includes any and all functions related to new electrical facilities and to modifications needed for existing electric infrastructure. Performance of work is evaluated for speed, accuracy, customer satisfaction level and technical abilities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Designs and prepares the necessary plans and work orders for electric utility department construction.
  • Coordinates design, schedules, materials and due dates with customers, developers, crew personnel, procurement, field contractors and others in the engineering department.
  • Performs field visits to ascertain customer design needs related to the electrical system.
  • Surveys and stakes lines for construction.
  • Contacts departments, builders, contractors, architects, engineers, and other related to the building industry on matters relative to work requested to be performed.
  • Analyzes customer plans to determine all information necessary to provide the proper services or work to be performed.
  • Transfers all related pertinent information in proper form in order for the completion of instructions.
  • Negotiates, describes and secures recordable easements and right-of-ways.
  • Analyzes customer plans to determine demand, metering equipment, voltage equipment, etc.
  • Determines customer contribution where applicable.
  • Maintains maps of all streets, subdivision, utility lines, etc.
  • Prepares graphs, charts, maps, etc., needed for the preparation of the Electric Utilities budget.
  • Operates PC computer as needed.
  • Performs other job-related work as assigned or required.

Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or any related degree.
  • Ability to work well with customers and peers.
  • Solid negotiating skills.
  • Thorough knowledge of Electrical Utility processes.
  • Thorough knowledge of operation of all equipment in Engineering Division.
  • Three years of specific preparation in distribution work.
  • Ability to prepare construction plans for utilities.
  • Able to read and prepare proper legal descriptions.
  • Willingness to work extra hours as needed.
  • Must have the ability to meet the physical requirements as outlined in the attached worksheet.
  • Must possess a valid Florida driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • Must pass a background screening process.
Type of Appointment/

Work hours:
  • Full-time/Regular in-person position.
  • Standard workweek, which is forty (40) hours of work per week usually consisting of five (5) days of eight (8) hours per day. The workday may be varied for the efficient delivery of public service.
  • Will be required to work other than the standard workweek on occasion, including evenings, weekends, and/or holidays.
  • Will be required to work occasional overtime or shift assignments, if applicable.
