Direct Hire Authority This Wildland Firefighter (Fuels Management) position is with the US Wildland Fire Service, GW-0456-7/8 working in the following location:
Homestead, Florida
- Operations and Preparedness
- Prepares and implements limited aspects of the prescribed fire/fuels plan, ensuring that preparation, implementation, and rehabilitation are completed to the standards specified and in accordance with regulations, policies, and guidelines. Collaborates with higher-graded fuels specialists to monitor treatment effectiveness, identify potential problems, and make recommendations. - Planning
- Participates as an interdisciplinary team member under the direction of higher-level fuels management staff. Develops routine plans and schedules for the prescribed fire, wildland fire monitoring, and fuels treatment projects. Under higher-level guidance and instruction, recommends solutions for technical problems requiring the use of specialized and/or complicated techniques. Uses input from the interdisciplinary team, management direction, and annual objectives to make recommendations regarding the prioritization and timing of fuels management projects. - Program Coordination
- Participates in planning and coordinating routine or limited aspects of the fuels management program. Assists in program direction, short- and long-range planning; budgeting; and managing wildland fire, fuels management, and prescribed fire programs. Monitors a variety of limited operational projects to address technical fire management problems.

Requirements- Must be a U.S. Citizen or National.

- Official U.S. Wildland Fire Service uniform is required.
- A condition of employment for accepting this position, you will be required to serve a [1-year probationary period OR 2-year trial period] during which your fitness and whether your continued employment advances the public interest will be evaluated.

- You must be 18 years of age or older to be assigned to a hazardous position.
- You may be required to work on-call, evenings, weekends, holidays, overtime and shift work.
- Subject to frequent extended travel, up to 10 nights per month, particularly during fire season, and you must obtain a government charge card for travel.
- You may be required to complete training and obtain/maintain a government charge card with travel and/or purchase authority.
