This position is located in Everglades National Park, in the Data Sciences Division. This is a temporary promotion not to exceed 1 year, and can be extended up to 5 years.
Major DutiesIncumbent will assist Everglades National Park with hydrologic monitoring and data management operations. The primary responsibility of the person accepting this position will be to collect, process, and analyze physical data from continuous monitoring stations located in upland freshwater marshes and marine areas of the Park. Field monitoring includes building structures to house hydrologic, climatologic, and telemetry instruments, programming data loggers, maintaining equipment, and collecting data from monitoring stations on a routine schedule.
Data management involves transferring field data to computer files, reviewing the data to assure quality, and loading data into the South Florida Natural Resource Center s (SFNRC) relational database. Data analysis task includes developing basic statistical and graphical summaries and assisting with preparation of standard reports. Area Information:
Location of duty station is ~8 miles within Everglades National Park in Homestead, FL. Conditions are often hot and humid with severe weather occurring quickly. Field work will occur in open marsh land, mangrove forests, open water, at great distance (max: 100 miles) from duty station. Mosquitoes, poisonous plants, venomous snakes, and dangerous wildlife are present within the Park and are frequently encountered.
