Wetland Mitigation Specialist Qualifications
MA/MS Degree in Biological Sciences, Natural Resources, or a related field with minimum additional experience of 10 year(s) in Wetland restoration and mitigation projects.
- Experience required with Windows, MS Word, MS Excel, MS Teams, MS Outlook, Adobe Acrobat
This position applies expert knowledge of South Florida ecology and wetland mitigation laws, regulations, and policy to assist with operating the Hole-in-the-Donut wetland mitigation project.
- Works closely with NPS staff to review reports, collect and analyze data, and review other information to assist with meeting the regulatory requirements of the Hole-in-the Donut (HID) wetland mitigation project and other wetland restoration and mitigation sites. 50%
- Conducts field evaluations of mitigation sites to develop and/or validate wetland mitigation outcomes and assess mitigation cost projections. Develops mitigation planning documents, possibly including drafting documents for use in the NPs environmental compliance process. 20%
- Works with NPS staff to prepare correspondence and participate in meetings and phone calls with regulatory personnel and other parties under existing agreements that support the HID. 20%
- Provides training, guidance and technical and logistical support to NPS staff related to wetland restoration and mitigation projects. 10%
- Health and Safety Considerations: Appropriate safety training related to use of equipment, application of herbicides, and related required tasks involved in restoration work. Training will be provided when needed.
- Required Safety Gear: Personal protective equipment and other safety equipment must be used in accordance with task-specific job hazard analyses and safety standards.

- Physical requirements: The position requires work in a variety of settings including prolonged work in an office setting using computers, to strenuous outdoor physical activity in challenging environmental conditions. Candidates must be able to lift 50 pounds and work outdoors for long periods, withstanding heat, humidity, and a variety of inclement weather.
