Pay

Hourly wage: $28.49 – $31.66 per hour.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Maintain golf course irrigation system (Homestead GC), including installation, inspection, preventive maintenance, and repair.
  • Operate and test sprinklers via Rain Bird MI (Mobile Interface) on iPhone or Surface tablet.
  • Conduct sprinkler performance testing throughout the year, troubleshooting problems as needed.
  • Diagnose and repair electrical issues with satellite controllers and 2‑wire paths.
  • Replace irrigation components such as sprinkler heads, head components, and PVC pipe.
  • Maintain appropriate lake water levels and keep accurate records of water use, pump use, and other pertinent data.
  • Perform minor maintenance on pump stations and keep own cart and tools in good condition.
  • Perform related duties as required and provide limited computer programming for daily irrigation under supervisor’s guidance.
  • Help lead variable staff assigned to irrigation duties when supervising staff is authorized.
Reporting Relationships

Reports to the 2nd Assistant Golf Course Superintendent (Homestead). May lead variable staff assigned to irrigation duties.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Communicate courteously and respectfully with customers, suppliers, and co‑workers.
  • Work well as a team member and independently.
  • Diagnose irrigation system failures and repair with minimal downtime, including sprinkler disassembly, pipe cutting, gluing, installation, and swing‑joint operation.
  • Willing to work overtime, weekend, standby, and call back when required.
  • Understand plant and water relationships.
  • Understand basic budget principles and operate within the budget.
  • Be ready for work 30 minutes before sunrise.
  • Demonstrate regular and reliable attendance.
  • Pass a criminal background check.
Technology Skills

Basic computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Excel for water accounting purposes.

Education and Experience
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • One or more years of experience in golf course irrigation, installation, and repairs.
Certifications, Licenses, and Specialized Training
  • Valid driver’s license with a good driving record.
  • Confined space certification required within six months of employment.
Physical Requirements
  • Must be able to lift 40 lbs; any weight greater than 40 lbs requires assistance.
  • Vision and hearing test required.
  • Exertions: over 100 lbs occasionally, over 50 lbs frequently, over 20 lbs constantly to move objects.
  • Must perform activities such as bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, climbing, balancing, turning, twisting, and handling repetitive motions with hands/fingers.
Environmental Conditions
  • Confined spaces.
  • Extreme cold or heat.
  • Frequent vibrations due to equipment use.
  • Fumes or airborne particles.
  • Moderate to extremely loud noise.
  • Outdoor weather conditions.
  • Toxic or caustic chemicals.
