Position: Surgical Tech III, Full-time Main OR

Position Summary

Baptist Health Brookwood Hospital is looking for a Surgical Tech III position working full-time during the Day
, in our Main OR
. This position will work Monday - Friday, eight (8) hours each day. The Surgical Tech, First Assistant performs in the role of first assistant to the surgeon, able to perform all the duties associated with the Scrub Tech III role, demonstrating knowledge of anatomy, physiology and carrying out functions that will assist the surgeon in performing a safe operation with optimal patient results.

Responsibilities
  • Responsible for the maintenance of an orderly surgical field and for consistently passing instruments and supplies quickly and efficiently to the surgeon.
  • Able to anticipate and prioritize the needs of the various steps associated with the procedure.
  • Takes part in sponge, needle and instruments counts as dictated by the procedure.
  • Responsible for maintaining the surgical specimen in a manner which identifies and preserves them for pathology evaluation.
  • Assists in ordering and stocking of specialty supplies under the direction of management staff and departmental guidelines
  • In collaboration with a Registered Nurse, serves as a technical subject matter expert for at least one tertiary specialty.
  • Provides scrub services for major procedures in at least 2 surgical specialties (independently with high physician satisfaction).
  • Prepares and conducts technical performance‑oriented training related to specialty service.
  • Serves as a preceptor to perioperative personnel rotating through the scrub roles associated with their primary specialty(s) and/or second circulates on major tertiary procedures.
  • Collaborates with surgeons and proactively addresses case needs when performing duties in either the scrub or second circulator roles.
  • In collaboration with the clinical leadership, assists in workflow process improvement activities, contributes to organizational effectiveness, and demonstrates career growth and development.
  • Transports and delivers items, equipment, and medications (excluding controlled substances and IV chemotherapy drugs) throughout the facility.
  • May have limited access to areas storing medications.
  • Maintains reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards.
  • Maintains compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures.
Qualifications

Education/Training

  • High school graduate or equivalent. Successful completion of:
    • Surgical Technology training program; or
    • Orlando Health training program

Licensure/Certification

  • Maintains current BLS/Health Care Provider certification.

Experience

  • Four (4) year surgical tech experience. (CST and two (2) years of surgical tech experience may substitute for the required experience).
