Wage/Hour Status:
Nonexempt


Primary Purpose:

Provide instructional, behavioral, and supervisory support to students in the high school behavior unit by assisting with academic activities, implementing behavior intervention strategies, maintaining a structured learning environment, and supporting student success in coordination with teachers and campus staff.

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

High school diploma or hold a General Educational Development (GED) certificate AND meet one of the following qualifications:
  • Obtained an Associate's degree (or higher),
  • Have completed at least two years of study (minimum of 48 college hours) at an institution of higher education, or
  • Any assessment approved and/or provided by the State of Texas.
  • Valid Texas educational aide certificate

    Special Knowledge/Skills:

    Bilingual highly preferred

    Ability to assist in instructing reading, writing, and mathematics.

    Ability to work well with children

    Ability to communicate effectively

    Experience:

    Some experience working with children
    Major Responsibilities and Duties:
    Instructional Support
  • Provide direct instruction of students under direct supervision of teacher.
  • Conduct instructional exercises assigned by the teacher; work with individual students or small groups.
  • Assist in positive behavior support systems.
  • Assist teacher in preparing instructional materials and classroom displays.
  • Assist with administration and scoring of objective testing instruments or work assignments.
  • Help with inventory, care, and maintenance of equipment by maintaining a neat and orderly classroom.
  • Help teacher keep administrative records and prepare required reports.
  • Provide orientation and assistance to substitute teachers.
  • Student Management
  • Help supervise students throughout school day, inside and outside classroom. This includes lunchroom, bus, and playground duty.
  • Keep teacher informed of special needs or problems of individual students.
  • Other
  • Participate in staff development training programs to improve job performance.
  • Participate in campus meetings and special events as assigned.
  • Maintain same ethical standards as certified classroom teachers.
  • Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
  • Supervisory Responsibilities:
    None

    Copier, personal computer, and audiovisual equipment.

    Maintain emotional control under stress. Moderate standing, stooping, bending, and lifting.
