Description

The authorized level of the position is Account Clerk IV. Applications are being accepted down to the Account Clerk III in the event of recruiting difficulties.

Salary Range
  • Account Clerk III, SR-11: $3,606.00 per month
  • Account Clerk IV, SR-13: $3,900.00 per month
Examples of Duties (Account Clerk IV)
  • Verifies and enters details of costs, charges or other similar bookkeeping items to correct accounts or classifications.
  • Receives, retains and deposits cash collections of various kinds, and maintains appropriate records; consults or studies specific books, manuals, catalogs or other sources to obtain desired information.
  • Performs computations such as discount, interest, ratio and percentage; determines rates, costs, amounts or other specifications for various types of items, selecting and using tables or classification data.
  • Explains details of services, methods or policies; prepares requisitions or purchase orders, and may place orders for supplies, materials, equipment or contract services; processes invoices and may prepare vouchers for approval to authorize disbursement.
  • May maintain inventory control records.
  • Reviews the accounts clerical work of others, calling attention to use of incorrect procedures or methods and to incorrect entries or results.
  • Composes correspondence requiring specific knowledge of methods, procedures, policies or other information; determines the general ledger accounts, journals and subsidiary accounts affected and the debit and/or credit entries to be made; summarizes transactions having a like effect and preparing control sheets or other posting documents reflecting the debit and/or credit entries to be made.
  • Total entries at specified intervals and take a trial balance of debits and credits; determine corrective entries required to bring accounts into balance; close and reconcile accounts.
  • May supervise one or more lower-level account clerks or other subordinates.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Experience Requirement
    :
    Work experience of the kind and amount shown below.
    • Account Clerk III: 1/2 year general, 2
      * specialized, 2–1/2 total.
    • Account Clerk IV: 1/2 year general, 3
      * specialized, 3–1/2 total.
    • Some positions require supervisory aptitude, demonstrated by leading a team, completing supervisory training, or receiving favorable appraisal.
  • General Experience
    :
    Knowledge of arithmetic and spelling; ability to follow oral and written directions, write simply and directly, and observe differences in words and numbers quickly and accurately.
  • Specialized Experience
    :
    Posting to accounting records and systematizing fiscal information; reconciling accounts and preparing standard financial statements; knowledge of double-entry bookkeeping for III, IV and V levels. Certification may be requested.
  • Non-Qualifying Experience
    :
    Experience as an inventory, stock, or supply clerk that does not involve fiscal record‑keeping is not considered qualifying specialized experience.
  • Substitution of Education for Experience
    :
    • High‑school graduation with basic English and arithmetic courses may be substituted for six (6) months of general experience.
    • One year of a full‑time accounting curriculum may substitute for one year of specialized experience, up to two years.
    • Baccalaureate degree in accounting satisfies requirements for the Account Clerk V level.
    • Fifteen semester hours of training may substitute for six months of experience, up to 3–1/2 years, provided the training includes at least three credits of accounting courses.

Lift/Carry Requirement
:
Ability to lift/carry objects weighing up to 20 pounds assisted by another person or use of equipment such as hoisting equipment or hand truck.

Supplemental Information

The advertised salary is based on full‑time employment and includes shortage and school year differentials, if applicable.

Applicants must meet all the requirements for the position they are seeking as of the date of the application. Experience is calculated on a full‑time, 40‑hour week basis; part‑time experience is prorated.
