The immediate vacancies are temporary full‑time and permanent full‑time positions located in Downtown, associated with the following departments:
- Department of Accounting & General Services
- Department of Budget & Finance
- Department of Labor & Industrial Relations
Level I – $4,243 per month (SR‑16, Step D)
Level II – $4,590 per month (SR‑18, Step D)
Employees appointed to temporary positions may also gain membership in the civil service upon satisfactory completion of an initial probation period of at least six months. Once you become a member of the civil service, you become eligible to apply for promotion and transfer opportunities to permanent as well as other temporary positions. Temporary employees also enjoy rights and benefits afforded to employees in permanent positions, except for return rights and placement rights associated with a reduction‑in‑force.
ResponsibilitiesLevel I:
Receives training and assists in a trainee capacity in activities pertaining to professional accounting work and performs other duties as required. This class involves assignments designed to provide experience in the practical application of accounting principles, procedures, and techniques, and familiarity with the nature and structure of the particular accounting system. Assignments are part of a planned, organized training program and are characterized by detailed instructions and close review.
Level II:
Is an advanced trainee and performs a variety of assignments ranging from the simple to moderately difficult which do not require the services of a fully trained accountant, and performs other related duties as assigned. As an advanced trainee, the incumbent progresses to full performance as an independent worker. This class requires the application of accounting principles, procedures, and practices in carrying out assignments.
- Legal Authorization to Work Requirement: The State of Hawaii requires all persons seeking employment with the government of the State to be citizens, nationals, or permanent resident aliens of the United States, or eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment in the United States.

Education:
A bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited four‑year college or university with at least 12 semester credit hours in accounting and/or auditing subjects (both levels). - Accounting
Experience:- Accountant I:
None required. - Accountant II:
Six (6) months of progressively responsible professional accounting or auditing experience which may have included teaching accounting at the university level.
