Accountant IV – Operations, Systems, Fund Control
Salary- Accountant III (SR-20): $4,961 – $6,043 per month
- Accountant IV (SR-22): $5,369 – $6,535 per month
Typical salaries include shortage and school-year differentials if applicable.
Responsibilities- Collect, compile, classify, and evaluate fiscal data; prepare trial balances and adjusting entries; verify and analyze financial data; prepare financial statements and reports.
- Supervise lower-level personnel concerned with fiscal control.
- Recommend and implement changes to accounting procedures and policies.
- Prepare and submit reports for federal grant-in-aid programs; coordinate with Budget and Comptroller offices.
- Interpret accounting data and explain program implications to management.
- Design and develop accounting systems, procedures, forms, and manuals as required by the assignment area.
- Initiate and record fiscal transactions in general ledger and subsidiary ledgers; audit transactional data for propriety and accuracy.
- Prepare quarterly financial reports on appropriations, allotments, and encumbrances for state departments.
- Basic Education Requirement
:
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited 4‑year institution with at least 12 semester credit hours in accounting and/or auditing. - Experience Requirements
:- Accountant III: 1½ years accounting experience, 0 supervisory.
- Accountant IV: 2½ years accounting experience, 0 supervisory.
- Progressive responsibility in professional accounting or auditing; teaching at university level acceptable.
- Non‑qualifying experience (e.g., lone bookkeeping, office management roles, non‑technical accounting roles) is not considered.
- Substitutions available for education with equivalent experience; a CPA or master’s degree may waive educational requirements.
- Quality of experience matters: the applicant must demonstrate the scope and level of responsibility required for the role.
