Staff Accountant

Description

We are looking for a detail-oriented Staff Accountant to support the financial operations of a mission-driven nonprofit organization in Honolulu, Hawaii.

This role offers the opportunity to contribute to accurate reporting, sound fiscal oversight, and effective grant and program accounting in a collaborative environment. Responsibilities:

- Prepare routine financial reports and statements, maintain account reconciliations, and assist with budget tracking and cash flow projections.

- Record payroll activity in the general ledger and oversee daily banking functions, including reconciliations, deposits, transfers, and outgoing payments.

- Support the preparation of grant-related financial submissions, budget updates, annual tax documentation, and materials needed for audits.

- Maintain accurate fixed asset and equipment records, coordinate purchase tracking, and keep accounting databases current.

- Partner with leadership to review program budgets and funding proposals, monitor expenditures, and help ensure adherence to grant requirements.

- Process funding draw requests, confirm payment accuracy, and coordinate timely billing for allowable administrative expenses.

- Uphold financial controls by following organizational policies related to purchasing, contractor engagements, and inventory accountability.

- Post journal entries and help maintain the integrity of the general ledger through accurate and timely recording of transactions.

Requirements - At least 1 year of accounting experience in a staff accountant or similar role.

- Working knowledge of journal entries, general ledger activity, and account reconciliation processes.

- Experience maintaining fixed asset records and supporting accurate financial documentation.

- Ability to prepare reports, analyze financial data, and manage multiple deadlines with strong attention to detail.

- Familiarity with budgeting support, banking activity, and standard accounting controls.

- Strong organizational and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across teams.

- Proficiency with accounting systems and spreadsheet tools used for reporting and recordkeeping.
