Accounting Manager

Description We are looking for a bilingual Japanese and English Accounting Manager to oversee core finance operations for a group of Hawaii-based entities in Honolulu, Hawaii. This remote role will guide accounting, reporting, compliance, budgeting, and financial review activities while partnering with local leadership and regional headquarters to support sound business decisions. The position is well suited to a hands-on leader who can balance operational accuracy with strategic insight in a service-driven environment.

Responsibilities:

- Direct the monthly, quarterly, and annual close cycle, ensuring timely completion of ledgers, supporting schedules, and financial records.

- Manage day-to-day accounting activities across multiple entities, including reconciliations, journal posting review, fixed asset tracking, and intercompany accounting.

- Produce and examine financial statements, management summaries, and variance analyses to highlight trends, performance drivers, and areas requiring attention.

- Coordinate audit preparation, tax-related support, and statutory reporting while maintaining adherence to company standards and applicable U.S. accounting requirements.

- Strengthen internal controls, refine accounting workflows, and monitor compliance practices to protect the accuracy and integrity of financial data.

- Support budgeting, forecasting, and financial modeling efforts that inform operational planning, investment decisions, and resource allocation.

- Oversee cash activity for the Hawaii group, including liquidity planning, cash projections, banking coordination, and movement of funds between entities when needed.

- Advise management and regional stakeholders on financial results, business risks, cost management opportunities, and actions to improve overall performance.

- Lead, mentor, and develop the finance and accounting team through coaching, performance feedback, hiring support, and clear goal setting.

- Contribute to evaluations of contracts, operational initiatives, and growth opportunities, and participate in occasional business travel as needed. Requirements

- At least 5 years of accounting or finance experience, including leadership responsibility within a multi-entity environment.

- Fluency in both Japanese and English, with the ability to communicate financial information clearly to diverse stakeholders.

- Strong knowledge of month-end close, general ledger management, account reconciliations, journal entries, and financial reporting.

- Experience supporting financial statement audits, regulatory compliance, and coordination with external auditors or tax partners.

- Demonstrated ability to analyze results, explain variances, and provide practical recommendations to improve business performance.

- Proficiency with accounting and business software platforms, along with solid working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.

- Ability to manage competing priorities independently in a remote setting while maintaining accuracy, organization, and accountability.

- Background in the tourism or travel sector is helpful but not required.
