The immediate vacancies are temporary full-time and permanent full-time positions located in Downtown with the following departments:
- Department of Accounting & General Services
- Department of Budget & Finance
- Department of Labor & Industrial Relations
Level I - $4,368 per month (SR-16, Step
D)
Level II - $4,725 per month (SR-18, Step
D)
Employees appointed to temporary positions may also gain membership in the civil service upon satisfactory completion of an initial probation period of at least six months. Once you become a member of the civil service, you become eligible to apply for promotion and transfer opportunities to permanent as well as other temporary positions. You may also enjoy other rights and benefits afforded to an employee in a permanent position with the exception of return rights and placement rights associated with a reduction-in-force.

Level IReceives training and assists in a trainee capacity in activities pertaining to professional accounting work and performs other duties as required. This class involves assignments designed to provide experience in the practical application of accounting principles, procedures, and techniques, and familiarity with the nature and structure of the particular accounting system. Assignments are part of a planned, organized training program and are characterized by detailed instructions and close review.
LevelII
Is an advanced trainee and performs a variety of assignments ranging from the simple to moderately difficult which do not require the services of a fully trained accountant, and performs other related duties as assigned. As an advanced trainee, the incumbent advances as part of their progression to full performance as an independent worker. This class is required to apply knowledge of accounting principles, procedures, and practices in carrying out assignments.
To qualify, you must meet all of the following requirements:
Legal Authorization to Work RequirementThe State of Hawaii requires all persons seeking employment with the government of the State shall be citizens, nationals, or permanent resident aliens of the United States, or eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment in the United States.
Basic EducationA bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited four-year college or university with at least 12 semester credit hours in accounting and/or auditing subjects for both levels.
Accounting Experience- Accountant I:
None required. - Accountant II:
Six (6) months of progressively responsible professional accounting or auditing experience which may have included teaching accounting at the university level.
Relevant substitutions as described in the Minimum Qualification Requirements may apply.
