Position: OFFICE ASSISTANT IV - CORRECTIONAL FACILITIES - OAHU

Immediate vacancies are located at the Halawa Correctional Facility (Halawa), Oahu Community Correctional Center (Kalihi), and the Women’s Community Correctional Center (Kailua).

Salary: $3,471–$4,388 per month (SR‑10, Steps C to I).

Job Responsibilities

Perform senior‑level clerical work involving a wide range of clerical functions that require originating and planning of work or a variety of highly complex clerical or administrative tasks. Tasks are primarily substantive and require evaluating information for conformance with established requirements, interpreting laws, rules and regulations to determine appropriate disposition, and using judgment when problems are not covered by standard instructions or established procedures.

Work is performed independently with substantial discretion and, for some positions, includes supervisory and complex clerical work comparable to the Office Assistant III.

Qualifications
  • Legal Authorization to Work – Must be a citizen, national, or permanent resident alien of the United States, or eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment in the United States.
  • Basic Experience – Six months of work experience demonstrating knowledge of English grammar, spelling, arithmetic, ability to read and understand oral and written instructions, write simply and directly, and compare words and numbers quickly and accurately.
  • Clerical Experience – Two years of work experience involving a variety of clerical tasks, knowledge of office practices and procedures, and ability to carry out procedures in clerical work systems and operate office equipment and technology.
  • Supervisory Aptitude – Required for some positions. Demonstrated aptitude or potential for supervisory duties through regular or special assignments that involve supervisory responsibilities, completion of supervision training courses, and favorable supervisory appraisals.
  • Substitutions Allowed – Relevant substitutions as described in the Minimum Qualification Requirements apply.
  • Keyboarding/Computer Skill – Some positions require keyboarding proficiency and/or the ability to use computers, word processing, and other software applications; required to type at least 40 net words per minute.
  • PREA Requirement – Must not have: (1) Engaged in sexual abuse in a prison or similar facility; (2) Been convicted of or attempted to engage in sexual activity with a victim who did not consent or was unable to consent; (3) Been civilly or administratively adjudicated to have engaged in the activity described in (2); (4) Been the subject of substantiated allegations of sexual abuse or sexual harassment or resigned during a pending investigation of alleged sexual abuse or sexual harassment.
