Salary Range: $16.00 To $16.00 Annually
PRIMARY
PURPOSE:
The primary purpose of this role is to provide administrative support across the organization while gaining hands‑on exposure to the insurance industry through structured shadowing. The Intern assists with data entry, document preparation, filing, and general office tasks, and observes experienced professionals across various departments – including underwriting, claims, and client service – to learn how policies are quoted, issued, and serviced.
This position is designed for an entry‑level individual who is eager to learn, detail‑oriented, and reliable, and who will contribute to the day‑to‑day efficiency and success of the team.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
- Currently pursuing or recently completed a high school diploma or equivalent; coursework in business, finance, or a related field a plus.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) or equivalent.
- High attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
- Able to handle confidential information with discretion and professionalism.
- Reliable, punctual, able to work both independently and as part of a team, and genuinely interested in learning about the insurance industry.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Performing general administrative tasks such as data entry, filing, scanning, and organizing physical and digital records.
- Maintaining and updating customer and policy information in the Agency Management system under supervision.
- Processing incoming and outgoing mail, email and faxes – retrieve, sort, scan, direct, and deliver items.
- Preparing, formatting, and proofreading documents, spreadsheets, and correspondence.
- Answering, directing, and/or distributing incoming phone calls and emails, and assisting with basic client inquiries under supervision.
- Scheduling meetings, managing calendars, and helping to coordinate team logistics.
- Shadowing underwriters, claims adjusters, and account managers to learn how policies are quoted, issued, and serviced.
- Sitting in on client calls and internal meetings to understand the full insurance lifecycle.
- Assisting with tracking deadlines, renewals, and follow‑up items.
- Supporting special projects and other administrative duties as assigned.
OTHER FUNCTIONS:
- Performs all other tasks assigned.
WORKING CONDITIONS/OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
This position is performed primarily in an office environment and requires prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer. The role involves repetitive hand and finger movements, including typing and using a mouse, as well as extended screen time. The workspace is typically climate‑controlled with standard office lighting and noise levels. Occasional walking, standing, or light lifting (up to 15 pounds) may be required.
